I would like to install a scattergun technologies front sight on my short Dlask barrel which has no provisions for a sight. The sight comes with a two part epoxy to glue it on but needs an a base of some sort.

What would be the easiest soluiton? I think brazing would mess up the finish and might harm the trituim insert. Would it be ok to drill and tap a hole in the front and screw in a base to glue/epoxy it too?? I do have a mill and thought about milling in a little dovetail and pressing in a base.

Is it ok to drill and tap all the way trough into the barrel? Not much metal there.

I think that is what was done on my Win 1300 from the factory.

Even if you install a bead I'm not sure how long it would be until the sight flies off. These were meant to be installed on the elevated Remington bead (the one that sits on that small platform). Once epoxied in place you'd drill the front sight, through the platform, and install a roll pin. This is how my barrel came set up.

ARWEN ACE can install it for you. He solders them on. This does mean that he has to re-finish the barrel, but he removes the tritium, parkerizes the barrel and sight, and then gives it a teflon coat if you like. Last step is to re-install the tritium, and voila, that sight isn't going anywhere, not to mention the finish should stand up to just about anything you can throw at it. Don't know what he charges, but I've heard that his rates are very reasonable.

If you're going to silver solder or braze it on, you WILL need to remove the tritium insert - and Arwen Ace is the only one I know who knows how to do that! He sivler soldered mine on, and then gave me instructions on how to reinstall it later (after I re-finish the barrel).

He's HIGHLY recommended!

How about a band on the barrel rather than messing with the gunsmith's expensive work?

sometime messing with a gunsmiths expensive work is cheaper in the long run. if the barrel is drilled and tapped, make sure the post on the sight doesn't protrude down into the barrel. if it does, file it off flush before you fire or you may get the effect of an obstructed barrel when you shoot.

Yes you can just glue it on but it will most likely come off. You can install a small base with a screw and then epoxy it on. It may stay on.
I just finished epoxying one back on that had come off of the proper base. I then pinned it.
The best by far is to silver solder it on as it wil not come off.

PS. Thanks all for the good words. I appreciate it.
