What do you think of this scope for .338 Lapua Magnum rifle? .308 rifle? Cheers,

p.s. anyone with one on their rifle with pics, info, etc? :D

Schmidt & Bender make awesome scopes! The older ones were a bit heavy, but I haven't handled a newer one. They will provide you with many years of good service.

Otokiak,

I have a 4-16x50, so I have a slightly different model... It's my first and only scope; the only other one's I've tried are other people's. Here's my experience:
- It's pretty heavy (1½ lbs... mine's 2 lbs!).
- Optics are really bright and the 50mm objective lens will collect a lot of light. I shoot paper targets with a white background and in the afternoon, I need sunglasses to shoot because of the light reflecting off of them. I can keep shooting until 8:45 pm no problem with no artificial light sources.
- Finish is not that durable (for the price at least). Mine got worn/chipped with very little abuse.
- Side parallax is very gradual, so you can really fine tune the focus on your target.
- Elevation/Windage adjustments are very crisp and tight. You won't go over by accident unless you really try.
- According to the manual, you need a canted base to mount it, unless you want to lose half your elevation adjustment range. That was a pain in the ass for my rifle, because no one makes a canted mount for it, so I had to have it smithed.
- 34 mm main tube; rings that size aren't as common as 1" or 30mm rings.

All in all, it's big, robust, clear and dependable. The nanuk won't know what hit it! (I hope I said that right!). You can find pics of mine here.

Enjoy! :)

redman, that's a beauty scope ... and a beauty set-up with your rifle ... I'd love to bang up a nanuq(polar bear) with that baby ... daaamn! :D

I have the 5 - 25 X 56mm PM-II on my AICS rig............

Awesome scope.............bright,clear and well made.

They are pricey, but I do not regret selling a few guns of in order to buy one.................You are looking at the scope that the U.S. Marines and CF are currently using..........

here is a pic of mine......

The mere sight of it will make the nanuq drop dead :dancingbanana:

One thing I forgot to mention, the scope has the crosshair in the first focal plane, so it gets bigger/smaller as you zoom in/out; makes range estimation easier.

Finally, you'll save quite a bit of cash by ordering them from the UK... I must've saved over 30%. Best of all, I didn't get slapped with customs since it didn't come in using FedEx, UPS or some other big courier, it came in with thier national postal service's courier.

That being the case, be sure you ask that it be sent by "Royal Mail" or "Parcelforce", and make sure they don't charge you the VAT (Value Added Tax)!! That's their sales tax and it'll add 17.5% to the price! By ordering from outside the UK, that tax doesn't apply to you, and some stores don't know that...

Hope this helps (lighten your wallet!!) :D

Awesome info redman ... thanks! :D

SKULLBOY, RePete, nice pics and rigs ... my friend "catworks" on the board had a PGW .338 with the S&B scope ... was awesome to shoot waaaaay out! Cheers my fellow CGNer's,

What shop are you ordering scopes from the UK? I would care to have a website or google search parameters for sure. 30% savings is large to state the obvious.
