Schofield to Webley

I've read elsewhere that the 45 Schofield brass is better suited to conversion to 455 Webley Mk.I as it's got a slightly larger rim than 45 Long Colt.

Anyone got any experience with this? I've got a friend with a New Service that won't extract 45 Colt based cases we're now wondering if converted Schofield will work better.

The Hornady stuff is Mk.II. Shorter than Mk.I.

We're looking for something to replicate the longer Dominion Mk.I ammo used by the NWMP.

I'd guess it would be. The 45 Schofield brass is 176 thou shorter than the .45 Colt. The rim diameter is 23 thou smaller and the base diameter is 5 thou smaller. The rim does have a bit of a chamfer though.
The Schofield case is 223 thou longer than the Webley. Has a 10 thou smaller rim diameter. The rim thickness is 21 thou thicker so your buddy will have to turn it down to .039".
You have this? The Mk I brass is under .455 Colt Eley.

Is Schofield brass any easier to get in the UK? Your buddy could buy Fiocchi Mk II ammo(assuming he can get it in the UK), pull the bullets and trim it to Mk I length. .866"

If you do decide to use the schofield as your base, Milarm in Edmonton has piles of new brass in there discount section. They have no .455 I have already checked.

All 455 MkI brass I use is made of 45 Schofield. Easy conversion if you have a lathe.

Don't worry, I'll be home in Red Deer this summer. I may stop in at Milarm and pick up a few for some experimentation.

Got access to a lathe but might try swaging them with a die and a press.

"...might try swaging them..." Use the lathe with a collet chuck. You're only removing a wee bit of brass. Swaging doesn't remove brass. It just squishes it into another place.
