So I always end up getting serpa holsters and thought I'd try something new for my cz shadow 2 (that a friend owns ) and was leaning to a ghost thunder. School me. I want something that can go on my belt (ipsc style) but want some thing that I buy once and cry once price wise. No button to press like the serpas. What would you choose and why. I don't have a red dot just a regular shadow 2 no light , thanks in advance. BTW I'm a mall ninja so don't know what's good for me in terms of position or drop just want something all the cool kids are rocking

I have a couple of Solely Canadian holsters that are good quality for a decent price. They're made in BC, with lots of colors / options available.

Blade Tech Classic, Short drop and offset. The holster comes with a Tek-Lok adjustable for belt width. Also comes with a belt slide. The short drop and offset fits between the Tek-Lok and the holster. Great setup.

I’ve used ghost holsters in Ipsc for seven years, I use the thunder exclusively for classic division and it’s never let me down. I’m in no way a small man and I’ve rolled and layed on it and bounced it off barricades so for anything less then severe duty you should be fine. It definitely has the most adjustability of any conventional holster I’ve seen. I also have a solely Canadian level 2 retention holster for my shadow that I used in the old 3 gun days it’s also a beautiful holster I just wasn’t fond of the drop offset attachment they used.

I got one of those holsters that the firearm kinda just sits on, not in. Haven't received my shadow2 yet but I'm eager to see how this holster performs. If you're not concerned about competition qualification and just want to larp around at the range, can't go wrong with a drop leg holster

Good of you to be honest with yourself about this!

You can spend "buy once" kind of money many, many times on different types of holsters before you find something you like that works well for you. Or, you might get used to a holster in any given position if it's a quality holster. Do you really not care about any feature other than it must be belt mount?

If you really have no preference, I'd go the other route: At first, get a number of budget holsters of all different types so you can decide what kind of position you want. Once you know what position you want, invest in a couple of quality holsters of that type with different types of coverage, retention, and other features. Then, maybe one of those will work out, or if not you should have a pretty good idea of what you do want. Spendy, yes, but the good news is that it will be relatively easy to sell the ones that don't work out, since you have such a common pistol.

Personally, in general I'm a fan of OWB concealment-type kydex belt holsters with strong passive retention. Started out with Raven Concealment, but now they only do injection molded so I prefer Solely Canadian. But for IPSC I'd go with a dropped offset holster on a double belt.

There's a couple of more pricey options for you if you want to go all out for an IPSC rig.

Redhill Tactical

And the GX Vice Holster

Both are rather expensive options as they are custom made and shipped from the USA. I would suggest you start off with something you could buy at your LGS and see if you like it. Black Scorpion makes good kydex holsters with good drop and offset hangars. The Ghost holsters are nice but I find the hangar to be pretty flimsy. And the Bladetech holster bodies are really nice and sturdy, but their drop and offset hangers are pure garbage, so unless you want it to ride on just the belt attachment then I would stay away as that option isn't ideal for IPSC, but it works.

Kydex Ghost and Bladetech are ok for IPSC.
Sport holsters - Ghost One and the likes - allow for slightly faster draw times, totally inconsequential for a beginner, and much easier to accidentally drop the gun.
For 3-gun games where you may need to run and go prone with the gun holstered, a Safariland GLS is a great option. Shadow 2 without optics fits well in a regular width, long slide GLS model.
