Doing some research on options:

- Dont want to do the stripper clip (want a full rail)
- Dont like the TAPCO mags (yuck.. and cant fit in pouches)
- No thanks to the mag adaptor..

Hopefully there is a detachable mag that fits in pouches and is the size of a 20 rounder or so...

Thanks!

Not sure what there is left.

Spectre Ballistics has a mag adapter for the Tapco, with a slight difference. It is all of a 5 minute install, and very economical. It allows you to cut off 95% of the duckbill on a Tapco, easy to do following the instructions on their site. Again, only minutes per mag. Would suggest cut off less than shown, and final file to fitting.

While doing that, easy to also install a push forward mag release.

There may be something else I am not aware of, out there, but this option is absolute minimal machining, contained only to cutting off the duckbills.

^ What he said.... I love the AK style mag release.

I have 2 5 round ones, one polymer one metal. Metal works great but is hard to Get out. Polymer is iffy but is easier to get out.

That being said I have vanilla mag release

Spectre Ballistics is a site sponsor/vendor. Look for their forum, or Google Spectre Ballistics, Sherwood Park, Alberta. They ship quickly, also. Very economical and easy to install.

SKS-KD-not tapco, not magwell adaptor, takes regular AK47 mags

sevensixtwo systems, spector ballistics-etc... based on my experience that front block, which re-creates the latch for the mag front lip... just doesn't hold for a long time

this front block has just a single point of attachment (besides it is a tension screw and not screw into the receiver), which for SKS is really far from being sufficient and with time it falls off-so do not go that route and save your money!

The sponsor above is a great place to go to if you're taking your sks as far as I took mine. Everything you see on mine came from hical minus the quick mag mod. Seeing as OP is in the lower mainland you can easily stop in and check them out.

I don't mind the duck bills, but the AK style push release is a must if you're going to use duck billed or modified rock and lock style magazines, with no possibility of feeding with stripper clips. But remember at least the first mag will require you to lock the bolt to the rear manually before you insert the magazine, and then let the bolt forward carefully while holding the top round below the bolt in order to have it loaded without actually having a round in the chamber...and I wouldn't carry it with the bolt to the rear either, for reasons that should be obvious. This is of course rectified if you cut the bolt, so you can insert a magazine with the bolt closed. I have a sevensixtwo systems release for my beater SKS, I'm going to bubba it for the lulz, no original parts will be harmed, hopefully ...and screw AK mags maybe i'll make it accept type 81 mags, lol...

even if u cut the bolt, a mag loaded with 5 rounds generally wont insert under a closed bolt. Which also means you generally wont be able to slide the bolt over a loaded magazine without chambering a round. (I always leave my action locked back). But 4 rounds loaded in the magazine will work as desired.

There are videos, and also I think, pics here, of where to cut off the bolt shoulders. Quite easy to do, if you are patient. About a half hour of light grinding, so you don't overheat the bolt (turn it blue). I have no issues inserting a mag on a closed bolt, in mine.

Definitely a good mod. I may be wrong, but I think that HiCal may do the bolt mod, for a fee, for those that might not be up to doing it.
