I was looking at ArmsEast website the other day and saw they were selling two different lowers a 5.56 and 6.8spc one.

I thought the AR was modular platform in that you could swap out different upper calibres on the same lower. Now my question is do you need a different lower for different calibers?

I've seen mag well adapters so you can use a 9mm upper on your lower. Is this the same with swapping to 6.8spc?

Also I think the 6.8spc mags are different from 5.56 mags, so do they need a different mag well to fit as well?

there is no difference between those lowers other than the roll marks that say 5.56 and 6.8/ that and the serial number.

Also the mags are slightly different in the feedlips. Nothing to do with the magazine well.

If you don't buy an AR15, yer #### will fall off!

Sorry, I just could not help myself. :D

You will love this platform. Building one is the most fun you can have with your clothes ON! It's right up there with paintballing every week. :D

Cheers,

Barney

LOL Thanks Hungry.
I've watched your M-14 Clinic videos and got a chuckle.

So just to get this straight. The AR-15 platform is only limited by the size of the mag well. It can take 5.56/7.63x39/various pistol cartridges/ and the 6.8spc.

Related to this would a different recoil spring/buffer be required if shooting heavier cartridges?

The AR-10 handles larger cartridges based on the 308 case as well as some of the Short Mags. So as long as the case fits the mags it could be a go?
