I`ve been around guns all my life. My brothers and dad have the 10/22 and I love it! Whats the best bang for the buck for long range? I`ve heard lots talk about this CZ452. What brand is it? What do they run for cost? Do they shoot the normal 22 shells? Like I mentioned, I know absolutely nothing about it.
My aim is to find a semi auto 22 similar to the ruger 10/22, but want something that will shoot farther without a ton of money in modifications.
Bolt actions are out of the question. I already own a Savage Axis 22-250 and now want a semi-auto 22. Thanks, Darcy

The CZ 452 is made by Česká zbrojovka in the Czech republic .. Its a great bolt action .22 it has a cold hammer forged barrel and is magazine fed .. Its the best quality and most accurate 22 bolt gun in its price range , still made the old way . Buy one while you still can , i dont think the factory is making them anymore , they are being replaced by the 455 line .

What really gets me , i was in a gun shop in the US a week ago and seen NIB CZ 552s selling for $375 here they are $550! WTF our dollar value is the same ! also seen the Tikka T3 hunter for $399! here its $650 .. The importers rape us here ..

One thing I didn't like is the one I have experience with was not drilled or tapped, but it was an older model, so not sure if that has changed.

The receiver is cut for rimfire rings, but this limits options for rings.

The receiver has has a 11mm dovetail , there is a large selection of 11mm rings on the market and 11mm to weaver adaptors .

They all pretty much shoot the same distance :p
Seriously though, if you are looking for long range accuracy, a bolt gun will probably serve you better than the typical semi auto.
If semi is a must try a tc classic or benchmark. They are known to be pretty accurate.

try a marlin 795 or 60 if you want a semi, If I do my part I can shoot sub 1.5" @100 yards with my 60 (best group was 1.346"). they are very accurate out of the box. But since my addiction to rimfire grows, I added a BRNO 2E to my colection and am hoping sub 1" @ 100 yards

To tell ya the truth, my heart is with the Ruger 10/22. I just don`t want to really get into the mods. Next thing you know, you have over 700-800 into it. A couple had mentioned: Marlin 795 or 60 and Volquartsen, if these are semi-auto`s....what is the ball park that you have seen them go for??

Yes they are semi autos. The volquartsen is big bucks. The model 60 starts at about $159 and the model 795 you might get for $139. I have a 60 and its pretty accurate but it won't touch my 452 (bolt). Also build quality and sights are night and day better on a 452.

I bought my 795 for $125, brand new, tax-in at SAIL in Vaughan when they opened around Christmas. At the time, Remington (Parent company) was offering a $25 mail-in rebate for the 795 so if THAT ever shows-up, it'll be $100 all in.

This thread is all over the place though, 452s are beautiful walnut/blued steel bolt-action guns that will out-last you...795s are econo-class semis, but boast accuracy that defies their price point, VQ stuff (no personal experience) are reported to be superb, but expensive and not readily available, TC semis (would love to own one) are excellent guns but a little ammo-fussy..and not cheap. Probably within $75-$100 (higher) than a CZ452 bolt action...and so on.

I guess the questions need to be~bolt or semi? budget?

The more time I spend on web forums, the less I find myself making sweeping comments about anything...but I will say a few things about the guns I do have allot of experience with, mentioned in this thread. My 795 is more accurate than my 10/22 ever was, hands-down. I don't mind knocking it around, letting it get rained-on, using it in the field, it truly is one of the best values you can get in Canada for a 22lr. I honestly believe that. My CZ452~had one in HMR and I've regretted selling it every day since I left the post office. HMR wasn't that useful a caliber to me here in Ontario, so it'll likely be a .22lr when the next CZ finds it's way to my safe. And it'll happen. If I had to have only one .22lr, it would be a bolt action, no question. I have 5 .22lrs. that get used regularly, and 4 of them are bolt actions. The other is a 795. :)

I don't think there is a more accurate gun for the price than the 452. Buy one, put a decent scope on it, go to the range and sight it in and after that if you have a miss it is your problem not the gun.

My son has one and it is so accurate at 100 yards shooting it gets boring...LOL

If you can find a Winchester Wildcat Varmint for a good price...Go for it.
I have a CZ-455 and the Wildcat shoots better but the quality is not in the CZ league.
