Went out for a bird hunt this afternoon and boy did I get schooled by the partridge. Saw 4, got off 4 shots, should have had 2 for sure as they were walking... they were just doing circles around me... I swear they were giggl'n

Anyways, in my defense it is so dang thick right now that you just can't sneak up on them and get a good shot... I know, excuses but my pride hurts so bad right now :)

Well, I think I'll go help my pride with a couple pints and reminisce about the great hunt...

Couple of days ago -
Two twenty bird coveys, no birds first flush.
Subsequent flushes 3 birds for 3 guns.
They seem to be humbling all of us.

Just wait till you decide to start shooting them on the wing... talk about a humbling experience lol... You wont believe the things that get in the way of youre shot charge chasing the bird in flight.;)

Sounds like you are not keeping your cheek on the stock. Keep your cool look down the barrel and you should be good to go.

I've been doing a sharptail hunt past couple days. I'm shocked. 4 flushed and no birds. I don't understand last year any grouse that dare flick it's wings in front of me was down. I was getting doubles....DOUBLES man!! On the bright side I got a mallard and a Teal.

they are humbling i shot at 2 and nothing. hopfully i get some this year oct 1 is our opening day in new brunswick and getting very itchy...lol

Thats fine, I once shot a grouse at about 20 yrds with a .22 4 times and it didn't die. KevinM. was there and he can attest to my accuracy. I shot it, it fluttered up and then settled back down so I shot it again and the same thing, then again and one more time for good measure before it finally flew off laughing at me along with KevinM.

I actually got a Hun last year, on the wing, with my little old Savage .22/20ga. I watched where a flock landed and walked up on them.

I could probably count on my thumbs the # of Huns I've got over the last 45 years!:p

OK, I'm going back out tonight for revenge! I've cleaned all the bad shots out of my sxs, practiced good gun mounting, meditated, thrown salt over my shoulder... I'm ready :D

Make sure you take some pics! If you don't have a camera you probably won't be able to kill any :) Would love to go Hun hunting one day. I get schooled by all the grouse species, except the spruce's, on a regular basis.

i call it bushcheckers, went out on thursday and lost 3 times :)
the bush is just too thick, and it seems them birds got smarter since I started to hunt in the area, you cant find them in open, got to get into the thick of it
