Schultz and Larsen Mod 65 DL

Yes I did try Numrich as they are a pretty good source for schematics but all they had were some parts and pieces for a rim fire Shultz & Larsen. The situation I have in front of me is a bolt that is cocked but can not be disassembled nor will it un ####. Frozen you might say. Most perplexing !!
 
Otteson's The Bolt Action, Vol. II has a chapter on the S&L Model 54, with a mention of the Model 68. There are drawings and photos. No mention of the Model 65.
There is a detent system in the bolt sleeve which prevents rotation; also a safety detent. Maybe these are causing the problem. The sleeve itself is retained by lugs; doesn't screw in.
 
I had one of these years ago and had the same issue. I ended up drilling a small hole in the bolt to depress a spring or plunger hidden inside. It was 20 years ago so I don't have pics or remember exactly where I drilled the hole. Hole was small, about 1/16 to 3/32. Something like that.
 
There is a little plunger which is used to disassemble the bolt. Sometimes, this gets stuck in the depressed position and the rifle won't fire. If it was mine, I would toss the plunger and use a punch when I wanted to disassemble. If it is for a customer, free up the plunger and there you have it. To me, any feature which can produce a failure to fire when things go wrong is a feature which should be removed.
 
The safety on the 65 is different than the other models but I don't believe this is part of the problem as it moves freely and the pin that retains it is visible and doesn't interfere with the shrouds movement. I wish I had the know how to post some pictures on here of the small pin that enters the left hand side of the shroud and I can see both ends of it, however its function seems to be a mystery. As Bill mentioned it will block the final travel of the striker resulting in a non fire. This hardened pin is in there tight and to remove it will require something along the lines if about 1/8th carbide tool and the end of the pin has a nicely formed radius to make things tricky. Oh well Monday morning looks like it will start out true to form. Thanks' for the advise guys. D.H.
