I know from posts on CGN that others on here have the same rifle.

Some time ago, I removed the bolt to store the rifle - now I am missing something to allow me to re-insert it - appears what might be a sear is protruding up from bottom of bolt race-way - on other .22's that gets depressed down by pulling the trigger, and bolt slides in - this one has two triggers - front one to set, then rear one to fire. I am obviously missing a simple step, but can not figure that out, this morning.

Looking for help from someone that knows how to get that bolt back in there. The little lever on top left of the rear bridge is rotated forward, so is not that mechanism stopping the bolt from going in.

I may have figured it out - at least the bolt is back in place and no beating required or bent things are apparent - required the front trigger to be set, then pressure applied to bolt handle, and trip the rear firing trigger - bolt went forward over that sear. The little locking lever was then swung back to the rear. I hope that was the correct procedure ...

The M61 bolt is easily removed and put back. Schultz and Larsen gives the following information in its bolt disassembly instructions.

The bolt stop is shown in the picture below.

Yes - now try to reinsert that bolt using those instructions - does not work ... That "bolt stop" prevents removal - has to be swung forward - but the sear prevents re-inserting that same bolt - unless I am missing a "trick".

It's been a few years since I've seen an S&L M61. As I recall the bolt stop has an open position that requires a 180 degree movement. Perhaps the trigger needs to be unset (or set?) for bolt removal. As I recall the trigger unit stays with the stock when the barreled action is removed. Once out of the stock, the bolt should be unaffected by the trigger.

Below is the barreled action out of the stock. The bolt stop is in the open position. If I recall correctly, if the bolt is not cocked it should be able to be inserted into the receiver and removed with the bolt stop open.
