schultz & larsen

You came to the right place, very very nice rifle and cartridge IMHO. I expect John and a few other will chime in tomorrow and fill you in about the S&L offerings. I have a bit of a soft spot for them myself, and hope to one day have a full house.

Silver They are a nice rifle. Mine shoots tiny little groups. If you are shopping for one in 7x61 S&H be careful. Many were re-chambered to 7mm Rem to make ammo easier to find . I have seen several of these that were NOT re-stamped on the barrel with the new chambering.

Donno what you're looking for as infos, but if it's technical, get yourself a copy of Otteson's book "The Bolt Action Rifle, Vol. II" chapter 8 is dedicated to the 68DL.
Then there's de Haas' book "Bolt Action Rifles" which also covers the S&L models. With these readings, you'll get the subject pretty much covered.
Enjoy that superb toy!

I don't know how to put pics up on this sight but the one I have is a mint original with 2 boxes of factory ammo and a box of reloads with factory norma brass. my dad was a collector and has since past. I was left with his collection. I don't want to shoot the factory ammo and I don't know how to reload so I cant see keeping it as it should be used. if anyone is interested they can pm there number so I can text or email pics. I would like to see it go to someone that can appreciate it and use it as my dad did he always said it was the finest rifle he had owned and shot. thanks mike

Your Dad had good taste:) as the Schultz & Larsen is also my favorite bolt action rifle. In my youth, moving up from a sporterized 303 Lee Enfield, I purchased a Parker Hale in 308 Norma Mag. I asked the gentleman I purchased it from why he was selling it as it was far above anything I had ever handled. He proceeded to show me a 308NM in a Schultz & Larsen and stated, "because I got this". I was hooked and promised myself 'One Day'...... . Then, a few years back, I decided I would go for or have a three gun Schultz & Larsens collection as/the cartridges pictured on the cover of the old Norma reloading manual. These three were supposedly the co-operative efforts between Norma and Schultz & Larsen. Top down, the 7x61 S&H, 308 NM and the 358 NM.

Nothing shabby about the 7x61 S&H as it predated the 7mm Mag by a few years, but unless you find someone specifically looking for that calibre, the calibre doesn't really enhance the resale value. Mine 'got the call' last fall for an Antelope hunt on draw in Alberta.

As Baribal made mention of in post #4, there are a number of good sources of info on the Schultz, one of which I have is the expanded 4th edition of BOLT ACTION RIFLES by Frank de Hass and Dr. Wayne van Zwoll. If you can get a copy, that may help you with any further details. Also Bruce, who goes by H4831 on site, is very knowledgeable on the Schultz and may be able to help you out further.
