Looks like my Schuster Adjustable Gas System is a NO-GO. The Plug threads don't match the M305. Can the Plug threads be re-cut to match?

gas assembly is compatable between the two rifles usgi barrel or norc barrel...... both assemblies fit both barrels. except the gas lock ring must match your barrel thread obviously.... pistons in some cases are not compatable. As in a norc piston will probably not fit a usgi assembly..... but a g.i. piston will sometimes work in a norc assembly...... but can chatter in the cylinder so i avoid them for the chrome lined norc gas system.

I don't think that's going to work without changing out the barrel as well.

Ooops, I was wrong. I thought the cylinder lock was threaded for the gas plug as well as the gas cylinder. It's not. So a gas cylinder change out should do the trick. Is there no machinist solution for changing the plug threads?

the chinese gas assembly is chrome lined. this is why we use a heat sink jig when we weld up the assemblies for match unitizing. This is to prevent warping or heat damage to the chrome finish causing it to flake. welding over the gas assembly threads and trying to retap would give you nothing more than a useless gas assembly...... I just can't see that being a viable solution.

Weld over the gas plug threads and re-cut the gas plug threads, not the gas cylinder threads.
