Scope advice for a Ruger Alaskan

I picked up a Ruger M77 Alaskan in .416 Ruger recently and have decided that I think I want to scope it. I would like something like a 1.75-5x32 but I am not finding much of a selection for similar scopes. A couple of the lower end Bushnells but I want to stay away from those. I saw that the Votex Diamondback comes in that configuration. I have a Diamondback on my .243 and it has been good but how will it stand up to the recoil of the .416.

Is the Vortex Diamondback a good option for that gun?

Is there a better option you can suggest?
 
My Alaskan is only a 375, but I'm really satisfied with a Leupold 1.5X5.
For the conditions I hunt in and the range of comfort zone, it works very well and seems to be very durable.
 
Something like that would be almost perfect. I was hoping to find a scope that had a little bit larger objective. I just prefer that look. I might have to go with something more like what you suggested just to get something the quality I need.
 
Its really just a matter of personal preference, I tried the 2.5-8x36 leupold on mine and took it off because I had more eye relief with the 1.5X5.
Plenty of eye relief would be a consideration with a 416 I would think.
I can understand however that by having the option of 8 power at hand could be advantageous if making a longer shot.
In my case I don't make longer shots so a max of 5 power is good for me..
 
I have one myself that I put a 1.5-4x24 trijicon with the red triangle post. I mounted it in Warne quick detach rings so I can go to irons if need be. I absolutely love the scope and It has allowed me to shoot MOA groupings at 350 yards. I am not a big guy and at 4x on the bench the scope usually kisses my forehead every second shot. Not much fun, and hope I never have to shoot like that in the field now that it's sighted in an I have a good batch of reloads for it. BTW, my scope is a 30mm tube, not 1".
 
I sold my .458 Lott and got a .416 Ruger for my main bear rifle this year, I put a leupold VXR 1.25 X 4 firedot on it. It is very fast to get on target and very clear and has no problem with the recoil so far I am very pleased with it.

Don't want to get too far off topic, but a picture of that gun woud make a certain guys day..
 
I have the alaskan in .416 and I have mounted both a Leupold VX-3 in 1.75-6x32 and a VX-II 1-4x24. I like the 1-4x24 better, as it has better eye relief at low power, and gathers just as much light at dusk (way better than the naked eye). More eye relief = fewer divots from scope recoil (it has happened, I'm embarrassed to admit).

Whatever you get, spring for the Ruger QD rings. The return-to-zero is "close enough" if you are careful (i.e. stress-relieve) when you mount, and the .416 is a gun that begs to be shot open-sights from time to time...
 
When I had one, i had a nightforce 2.5-10x24 mounted on it. Great optic for that gun/application. Rugged, good magnification range, illuminated reticle


I had a nightforce 1-4 mounted briefly and if hunting in thick cover, would have used it instead
