I'd like to scope a PAL rated .22 Springer air rifle (800 fps). I don't want junk, but don't want to break the bank either. Mildot reticle would be nice. Any advice? Thanks guys.

Leapers / UTG has some very acceptable cheaper airgun-rated scopes. DL Airgun carries a whole assortment of them.

These are in the $150 - $300 range. If you want to spend more, look into Hawke, and then up to MTC. Scopes like Leupold work very nicely on airguns, but they're overkill. The longest shots I take with my air rifle is 100 yards, and that's very rare. You just don't need the super high end glass, IMO.

Sightron also is airgun rated and lifetime warranty. For about $300 you get a 3-9x40mm w/adjustable objective (good to 8yds I believe) and mildot, hunter, and moa20 reticle options available. I have the moa 20 on a HW97 and like it. I tried a Bushnell Legend Ultra 4-14 mildot. It was also good, but for me the reticle was too fine.

Good page on Bushnell Airgun rated scopes:

Sightron has some excellent options that are built specific for the Field Target game in Europe. High mag if desired and competitive pricing.

Other options from Athlon which may offer more FFP options if that matters.

PM or email.

Thanks

Jerry

Hey Steiner~are you referring to the S1 series? Please post a link to the scope you're referring to. Thanks!

EDIT: Mystic~are the S1 scopes airgun/springer-rated? I have one on my CZ rimfire and really like it for the $.

For the dollars, they are a fantastic value... but with the price point, I have to assume the internals are going to be made from less durable stuff. They focus, they track, they run great but if you are going to use it hard as you would in field target, I would want something that can handle the useage. For the casual target shooter, they will do just fine.

PM or email if I can help.

Thanks

Many of the scopes used for Field Target competition are used on PCP rifles, which don't have the heavy two-way recoil that springers usually have. With a springer it is necessary to get a scope that is rated for use on spring piston air rifles. Barfman has given good advice.

X2. Must be Airgun rated. Even then, it's not a question of whether the Springer will eat a spring rated scope. It's a matter of when.

On my HW80 I have a Nikon PROSTAFF Target EFR. It is springer rated, excellent scope for about $200. Many tins shot and it’s still perfect. Had to put a small amount of silicone in the mounts (4 screw ones, very good) to keep it from sliding as the gun kicks like a mule.
