Scope and mounts for a Savage

4-16 x 50 would be a nice magnification range for a .300 Win mag hunting rifle on either a one or 2 piece rail. Warne are good bases and Burris are good rings, but so are many others. If it has a DBM I'd go 1 piece. If it is a blind mag I'd likely go 2 piece base.

I have a one piece rail on my Tikka T3 made by Mountain Tactical. There in Montana and they ship direct to Canada. Good mount, mine is made from steel with a 20 MOA cant. They make it with 0 MOA and also in aluminum. Aside from that my Savage has a Ken Farrell steel mount. Also top notch.
For a scope I prefer to have more magnification than I need. I've always heard the common complaints about need a bit more power to see if it had more bone. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. So for me I like the 5-20 or 6-24 power range.

Good question. I was thinking 500 to 750 and hunting, but I use the rifle more at th range then anywere!!

Too many scope options to list for ya, but I can tell you that I have used an EGW (Evolution Gun Works) one piece base for quite a few Savages and they are well priced and very well made.

If you are shooting out to 750 meters you probably want an offset 20 MOA rail.

Thankfully the (left-hand) Savage 14 I just bought* already has a mount...
Not sure of the make, or if it has an MOA increase..? But it looks pretty low.
I don't plan on using this rifle past 500m, so I think it's gonna be fine.

On my Stevens I used Talley Lightweights to mount my Burris 3-9x Signature. The Savage long action can make mounting some scopes challenging due to the length. My buddy bought the same rifle (actually it was a gift from his wife) and he cheaper out and went with a Rifleman scope. I had to get a Weaver extension ring to mount it. I almost jerked the Talleys off my rifle to try to mount it (we were rushing for some reason that eludes me now) but after measuring them they wouldn't have worked either.
I'm a big fan of the Burris scope and the Talleys performed really well. Tell rifle itself always shot consistently under 1" and when I jerked the scope to sell the rifle I found that the rear base was flopping around loose. Two turns from tight in fact. Still didn't effect the accuracy. To me that speaks to the strength and stiffness of he main tube of the Burris scope. Not sure if he new ones are as skookum as the old ones (this scope is probably close to 20 years old and I remember that in those days the Burris weighed more than the comparable Leupolds due to heavier tubes and lenses) but if hey are that would be he way I would look.
Above all, buy the rings and bases and double check your length before you decide on a scope.
