Hello I just bought a

SPS Tactical AAC-SD, Heavy Barrel, Houge Overmold Ghillie Green Pillar Bedded Stock, 308 WIN
20" HB

I would like to hear options for a decent scope and mounts. I don't mind paying but dont want to pay double for a scope that is only 10% better than one half its price, if you know what I mean. Leaning towards a Leupold

Also, what are my stock options if I want to change to a detachable mag.

thanks

IMO while a Leupold is a good choice I would personally put on a NF NXS as, to my eyes at least, I find them superior. A quality 20MOA base and decent rings ( Personally I use a lot of TPS ones and have never had an issue with them so they get the 'value buy' award) and you are good to go.

Replacing the stock would be #1. Those hogue overmolded stocks look and feel nice, but they are not rigid enough for accurate shooting. Buy a used HS Precision aluminum bedding blocked stock (From a LTR, PSS, or 5R), and have it bedded. Get a trigger job, and then think about putting a nice piece of glass on it. A used Leupold Mark IV would be more than enough scope for that rifle. I would not put a $2000 scope (i.e. NF NXS) on a $900 rifle, but that's just me.

I bought one in January from Ellwood Epps for $639. I also couldn't justify, or afford, installing a $1000-$2000 scope. If I could afford it I would have bought a more expensive Remington or other make. I put a Choate stock on, Burris Tac rings and I forget what type of 0 min rail but it shoots nice with my hand loads. Scope is a Falcon Menace 4-16 X 44. Longest I've shot is 400 and 3 shot were within an inch and a half of each other, the fourth was about 6 inches away from the group so honestly, a bad group.... but I'm a bad shot. That why my name is "ShakeyJake".

Shoot it before you replace the stock. With factory 180 grain hunting loads, I was EASILY averaging .5moa with the exact same gun. This was in stock configuration with a Millet scope.

If yours isn't so peachy, replace the stock, but give it a chance first.

Hi,

I have a remington 700 5R. I bought it BDM. I wanted to change the stock but did not really want to put the BDM into it. So I just bought another BDL. Anyways, I took off the original stock (I believe an HS) and put it in a Choate tactical custom. Nice stock BTW..

As far as Scope, I put a bushnell 4200 6-24 X50. I found it used and paid 450$ +tx+ship. Well worth every pennies!

I really like my setup as it is.

Also, stay with the BDL... less of a pain in the neck.. unless you want an AI or something like that that would cost you somewhere 350$ and up...

Good luck and have fun!!

That being said, this weekend i'll be bedding the stock so it'll become a real tac driver.. from what I heard!!

Where do I get TPS rings from?
