is there any advantage of this type of base over the standard weaver rail? what about one or two piece bases?

The advantage of this kind of set up is that you can make windage adjustments with the mount instead of useing up the scopes internal adjustment.
This was a bigger geal before scopes had self centered crosshairs.
They are not as strong as weavers.

Personal preference pal.
Myself I like regular weaver bases w/ Burris Zee Rings. Simple, Nice and Strong

Personally, I like this kind of set-up as well.

Recently, did this with my newly acquired pre 64 Win M70 .30-06 fwt & Leupold 2-7x33mm...

I've done this with a couple of my rifles.
I am not sure about this set up on the Schultz 308 Norma Mag?
So far nothing has moved.
Two pinch screws on the top ring caps has me squinting my nose.
They sure look great, simple, sleek and light.
Time will tell.
These photos are of my T-Bolt.
Not sure I like the scope, may just put my
Legend 3x9x40 on it.
