I am interested to hear what other CGNer use on their precision rifles in regards to scope bases and rings. I am looking at a Remington 700 SPS Varmint as a base rifle to build on with possibly a Bushnell 4200 or 6500 series scope. What are your thoughts on a good base and ring combo?

I'm currently running Near -25base and TPS low rings.

I've also run Farrel bases and burris XTR rings with taller results.

Use Ken Farrel weaver style base and glue it to the action with JB weld. Glue the screws in place too, dont be shy with the stuff. Klean up is easy with acetone.

It's a cheap way to stiffen up the action and keep your scope in place.

If you ever want to take it off, just heat in the oven at 300 for 10 minutes.

I use TPS medium rings on top a 20 minute Evolution Gun Works rail. Had to use the medium rings as I use a 30 mill scope tube and have US optics anti-cant tucked between. If you plan on throwing anti-cant on down the road, you may want to consider using a little taller rings........

Farrell base for my comp rigs.

Burris XTB for a hunting rig. Steel and tough.

Burris Sig ZEE rings are on all my rifles. Steel and lightened if tall rings. Inserts solve ALOT of install issues and give you so many options in setting up your scope.

For the mondo tactical stuff, Farrel Tactical rings are indexed matched and very well built - steel. Burris XTR are also tough and well made for way less money - alum

Leupold PRW and QRW have also proven popular. Mk4 bases are nice too for those who like the Leupold brand.

I use Near Bases on all my rifles. Have used Mark 4 and Badger rings with no complaints and currently have TPS rings.
