We were out shooting this weekend and one of the fellas ended up with a small scope cut on his forehead and a small head ache from a .300 wsm.

Could have been much worse but a few wipes and a couple of steri -strips and he was back at the table.

I've only had scope cut once. Full half-moon:p from my .30.30 years ago.

How about you guys? Any scope cuts in your past?

None ... ever, but have seen a few "squirters" that required
half a dozen stitches & left big goose eggs & a headache. :p

Nothing like good scope positioning, long eye-relief & a proper
gun mount/shooting technique to avoid the "Crescent Moon Club"

scope bite

I have never been bitten by a scope but I once let someone shoot my 375 H&H that ended up with the poor fella getting 9 stitches. I haven't let anyone shoot one since.............

we had an open house at our range once. Some (BOZO) let a kid try a .300 WSM, then stood there and watched as the kid scrunched way down on the bench. When the gun went off, it just about launched the 98 pound kid, cut a big "C" in his forehead to the bone, and almost knocked him unconcious. He was literally stunned, and we had to hold him up for about 30 seconds. His mother was right there, and freaked. It took 9 stitches to close him up. The kid and his mother came to the open house because he thought he might like it. His mother wasn't too crazy about it, but was supporting her kid. We, of course, never saw either one of them again. Who knows how many people's hate list we got on that day!:( :(

I have learned never to put a cheap scope on a rilfe again; many of them do not have the rubber ring on them. I was not paying attention and put my head almost right against the scope when I was firing my 270; I was stunned pretty bad, have a scar, but did not need stitches.

I bear the mark of the crescent moon over the right eye. Not because I am the "chosen one"............

My last scope cut was shooting a friends rifle, mounted with a scope that I had sold partially because of the short eye-relief. The irony of that is just sickening!:slap:
The worst I every got nailed was shooting a friends .375 wildcat that basically took a 300 grain to .378 Weatherby speed. The stock is short as he isn't a real big guy. 2 shots were OK, then I relaxed a bit and really got clobbered. I'm pretty sure I touched bone on that one.

I got bitten twice. The embarrasing thing is that it was a 308. Both cases were after shooting a light 22LR... I forgot I have to put the rifle solid into my shoulder.

No case of "magnum eyebrow" for me but I did see a buddy get "bitten" by his Savage .30-06 when he went prone to take a long poke at a coyote. He missed the coyote but the rifle still drew blood.

i've never seen someone get hit with a scope but i heard someone got a shotgun bead in the forehead from a pistol grip
