We were out shooting this weekend and one of the fellas ended up with a small scope cut on his forehead and a small head ache from a .300 wsm.

Could have been much worse but a few wipes and a couple of steri -strips and he was back at the table.

I've only had scope cut once. Full half-moon from my .30.30 years ago.

How about you guys? Any scope cuts in your past?

First time moose hunting I was shooting at a can and I got a half-moon from my .308 WIN, second time moose hunting I was shooting AT A MOOSE! lol, scoped myself, just made sure there was no blood and shot again.

The first time hurt because I wasn't excited, second time didn't really fell it.

GG.

I have had a couple over the years, just like Griz Guiy excited.

But those rifle had a lot more ooomph than a 30-30, Bwwahahahaha

Yeah I am a full fledged member of the Half Moon Club!
Scoped Slug Guns are real hard on a good looking fella like myself. I have seen some wicked Scope eyes.... the worst one was Lucas on his first deer when he was 15. Shooting with the gun off his shoulder and hunkered over like a dog screwing a football. Trip to the hospital and 8 stitches over his eye... His Mom was smart enough to report to the Emergency that "A METAL TUBE HIT HIM IN THE EYE!"
Otherwise it would have gone in the books as another "FIREARMS RELATED INJURY"!

Been tapped a couple of times, but never cut and I've owned several 375Magnums over the years. Leupolds help and concentration at the bench.

Some day. :D

.

I have a decent scar (23 sticthes) and a split eyebrow from 303 when I was 14. I kept bugging dad to let me try the big gun, he finally caved one day.:D We only told my mother truth last year on my 29th b-day.

I have had a couple of nicks on my nose when the butler creek lens cover lever rotated and struck my nose, but no scope cuts.It seems that most scopes now have rubber rings on the eyepiece to prevent cuts. The biggest cuts that I have seen came from leupolds which don't use any rubber cushioning on the eyepiece.

LOL!:p Sometimes it is better for Mommy to not know!;)

I have been tapped many times, never enough for cutting thank goodness. I am ugly enough as it is!

The 375 H&H was by far the worst while wearing the M8 6 power Leupold. I would either get kissed by it or by my knuckle of my thumb right square in the beak, hard enough to look for a kleenex in case the blood was going to flow. That gets old.

A number of years ago a friend of mine 'used' his right eyebrow to break his glasses, open up his eyebrow and brake the rear scopemount on my .308 Norma Mag. First large calibre he'd ever shot and it ended up a little more than a half moon cresent. More like a 3/4 moon eclispe that required nine stiches.

I have been llightly tapped by a 30-30 and a 30-06. But my bro came out with me a couple of days ago to sight in my new Tikka T3 7mm-08 and my father's Browning in 7mm-08 now my father's is a Micro hunter (short stock) and is left handed. First shot, crack right in his brow, only bled for a couple of minutes, just a small nick.

I got a smack from the release lever of the Butler Creek scope cover on my old '06. It got me just below the eye on the edge of my nose - and let me tell you, that hurt. I quickly solved the problem by cutting the release lever off the scope cover then turned it a quarter turn so it would open to the left. When I worked the action, the bolt handle would hit the tab and open the cover.

When I was just getting into guns I bought a 30-30 and mounted a scope using see-thru mounts. Now I know better. never cracked my eye, got bumped a few times though.

Some friends from Switzerland came on a canoe trip with us. We got the guns out to do some plinkin. I was going to hesplain the gun to my friend but swiss-Ive-been-in-the-army-guy did not want to hear it. Well he got a nice half moon souvenier. No stitches in the back woods so it left a real nice scar :)

Had an old 30-06 midland that drew blood on the bridge of my nose on two separate occasions while shooting at deer. It has never happened before or since. I don't own that rifle anymore...
