So whats the differences between the two scopes. appart from the magnifications.. I plan on using it at the range most of the time.. and in the bush a bit of the time.. long distance shooting...

Varmint:

Swat

I know the Varminter has the focusing part on the end of the scope, is that a good thing to have?.. how do you focus the Swat scope?.. Both have the adjustable Turrets and such..

What one would you buy for what I want to use it for..

The swat has the parallax adjustment knob (focusing) on the left side, opposite from the windage, which is much easier to reach. I prefer that....but on the other hand, you might not need the illuminated reticle much at the range.

There is not any set technical diferences, which vary by manufacturer. With IOR, it's simply in the reticle, with mildot or MP8 variations being tactical and duplex, and variants being for hunting.

Peter

Trust me: Don't waste your money on Barska. They are the cheapest, worst pieces of Chinese crap I have EVER seen (and unfortunately, spent money on... I was looking for a "budget" option with a gopher gun I had) , well, maybe second only to Leepers. The glass is horrible, (Distorted, fuzzy, no contrast) the Eye relief at magnification is virtually unusable and the adjustments have no trackability whatsoever.

If you don't believe me, I'll send you a Barska 6-24X50 to try... you pay the shipping. Save your money and buy a Merlin/Falcon, the new Bushnell tactical scope, or the two scopes you are guaranteed to like, Nightforce and Leupold.
I even like the Mueller scopes, but I do not like the gouging that is happening with the prices in Canada (Double the US retail price)

It takes a wealthy man to buy cheap scopes.

+1 to what Obtunded said. I had one as well that was such a POS I actually threw it out. In addition to everything he describes, mine had the added 'feature' of fogging over completely in even the slightest damp weather (not so hot in the GVRD). This in spite of the scope apparently being 100% sealed and waterproof. On the upside, I think I only paid about 60 bucks for it.

That's a decent scope, I used to have that exact one on a rem700vss. The down side is the lack of target knobs.

What one you should buy is the best you can afford. If you can afford it, get a Leupold or a Nightforce. If you're more on a budget, go for a SS10x or SS16x, or something from Falcon optics (I've used both the menace and the merlin and they both seem to be decent products).
