So I know the united states are stupid with their export laws.

For the scopes, is it true u can still order out of the states, "hunting scopes"
or was the information i was provided wrong?
If that is true what classifies as a hunting scope. which brands, and of those what models?

If not well I'm SOL without a permit lol!!

I'm quite certain that export of all firearms mounted optics are restricted from export. I've been looking for some way to get the new Leupold VX-R Patrol 3-9x40 in Canada...no dice. It's not even legal to buy one in the US and drive back with it.

It's ALL scopes, tactical, hunting, doesn't matter. I just ordered a Burris Mtac from the US.. it's pretty easy actually, the hard part is getting an American company to go through the export hassles.. I applied for an International Import Certificate, that took 2 weeks, i sent that to the US retailer www.theopticzone.com, they applied for an export permit, took 3 weeks.. Had the scope in my hand in 6 weeks.. The scope isn't even available in Canada until next year, but I got one, and legally I might add :)

How much did it cost you for all the permits?
Just an aside, one thing that i found out that you have to look out for is that some scope manufactures, ie leupold for example, will only complete warranty work on the scope with a serial number for that country. For example you buy a leupold from the states, in order to have warranty work done on that scope you have to send it back to the states. If you had bought it in Canada, you could easily send it to Korth.

On Dec. 6th I ordered a Nikon Prostaff 3x9 Rimfire scope (with BDC 150 reticle). It has 50yd. parallax setting, target turrets, which are resetable; all in all, its a decent scope designed for rimfires. I ordered this from Mack's Prairie Wings in Arkansas, they ship to Canada, and take care of ALL the paperwork. Several copies of export paperwork was attached to the packaging for border persons. I received it today by Fedex. Macks took care of everything!!! I placed my order by phone-----it was hassle free.

ps
yes the shipping container (cardboard box) was even labelled as a riflescope.

Hehe, thanks buddy. I just placed another order for another scope. I applied for the international import certificate and the Canadian govt finished it and emailed it to me NEXT DAY, amazing.

Restricted in the sense that export is subject to controls. It is not absolutely forbidden, you just have to go through the process to get the necessary export permits. The process includes presenting the U.S. authorities with paperwork from the importer's own national government.

The main obstacle is that so many U.S. sellers decide the process is more trouble than the profit is worth to them.

I just spoke with Burris about getting a tactical turret conversion on a 4.5-14x42. They told me to just ship it in and they would do the work and send it back. They knew I was from Canada, should I be careful here?

They handle everything out of Colorado, if you PM me, I can forward you an email from Burris support as to where to send in Canada. They have a Canadian distributer that will handle the cross border stuff for you.

Yeah, just looked into it. They look pretty good except their shipping is pretty high. For example if you order 2 Nikon Prostaff rimfire scopes the shipping cost is $69.99

So-called "hunting scopes" and "military scopes" are regulated by 2 different US government departments. They used to enforce their restrictions differently. sadly, they no longer do.
