Hey guys looking for a new scope for my 22-250, I currenly have a vortex diamondback 3.5-10x50 but it's just not enough zoom for longer shots and the reticle is quite heavy. Im looking at the bushnell legend 4-14x44 and wondering if anyone has some sort of a reveiw or suggestions in the 3-400$ range, thanks!

If you are shopping in the $400 range, do not buy a Bushnell Legend. You could pick up a Leupold VX1 4-12x40, or a Redfield Revolution 4-12x40, but I'd suggest looking for a used Bushnell Elite 3200 in 5-15x40.

There's a used FXII 6x with fine duplex for sale in the EE...thatd work nicely. My 700 BDL .22-250 wears an M8 7.5x with tapered cross hairs...I like it.

To get the most out of the .22/250's capabilities you should get a scope that has at least 16X on the top end... 24X is even better in my opinion... The Hawke Varmint SF is a good scope for the money... In 4-16 or 6-24.

Thanks for the responses everyone, ill keep an eye on the ee, hoytcannon do you have a hawke? I've seen them around before but haven't heard any pros or cons ?

I have eight or ten of the Hawke Varmint SF series scopes, in 3-12, 4-16 and 6-24... they are very clear, bright and hold POI well... for $200-$230, they are an excellent buy... I really like the 1/2 Mil-Dot reticle.

22-250 is a fine long range, small target cartridge with little recoil. I prefer lots of magnification. 18x min. on a variable scopes upper end so I can see the targets and the hits. The ability to drop down in magnification is nice if the mirage gets up. Usually scopes of this type in the $400 range are a waste of money enroute to what you'll eventually end up with.

It's an sps varmint with a nice wood stock, it's for killing coyotes and I won't be shooting a mile, with a new house and a new car my spending is limited by the wife so 400 is the top, I figure 4-14 or so is about right for my hunting distances are from 50-300 yards

For coyote hunting/calling I personally wouldn't go any higher than 9 or 12 ish top end power and I'd stay away from adjustable obj., etc. Shooting can happen fast and usually isn't a long range affair. Picking up a target quickly without having to mess with your scope is what I prefer.
