Trying to decide on a scope for my model 700 varmint special in 223
The range I'm joining only goes to 300 yards, and she might see some long range groundhogs as well.

I'm working on a budget here, and I'm thinking somewhere between the bushnell legend 5-15 or the trophy xlt 6-18?
Both are in the same price range, is the glass on the legend that much better, is the trophy that bad? You folks tell me.
Please don't recomend the 3200 10x, I like it but I want variable zoom.

I am wondering the same thing!!!! I was even considering the Bushnell Banner 6-18 x 50 as it is dirt cheap. It is going on a Stevens 200 - .223 that will only be seeing range use. It gets decent reviews for such a cheap scope, and I am currently using the cheapest bushnell out that comes on the Savage package guns with good results so I am under the impression any bushnell higher than the sportsman series will get the job done!

So again the question is; is the Legend series that much better?

Falcon Menace 4.5 x 15 x 56mm... around $ 400ish at Frontier (a board sponsor up above). I even took my own advice and bought  TWO of them!

One of them is used on my .22-250 Hvy Varmint Win M70 with 9" twist barrel ;)

Life is good!

Thats about double what the OP was looking at and I know its out of my budget. I do plan on eventually ponying up some cash for a nice scope but for now I just need a cheap functional scope that will work reliably. Later I will put this scope on my Marlin 336 or Stevens .270 and upgrade but my budget is $250 whcih judging by the OPs post is about the same.

Had a Banner 6-18x50, sold it with the rifle: a Mod 10 Predator 22-250, very clear scope, good for it's price range, WELL under $200 with taxes.

Might be out of your price range but you may want to look at the Nikon Buckmaster line.
I've been using the 6-18SF for a few years now on my 223 and I'm very pleased with it.
