I am in the market for a scope to go with my Vanguard in .223 and was wondering if anyone had a recommendation?
Will be for paper punching out to 200-300yds, and also gophers. Was thinking of a 4-12x or 4-16x??

You might think about the Bushnell 5-15 in a 3200 series or the 4-12 is a good choice. I have a 4-12 on my Sako Vixen 223, 4-12 on my 308, I have a 4-12 Banner on 1 of my .22's and it works well. Really depends on how much money you want to spend for a scope when it comes to recomendations.FS

Scope for .223 Rem.

Steal someones Leupold 24 BRD, Stay clear of the nightforce if you are going to shoot in the paddock, it raises your head too far off the stock.
As for the 24 BRD, have premier reticles install the reticle of your dreams and if you wish, have them remove those mongrel raised turrets, and whatever you do , do NOT change the parallax adjustment after you have set it, it has me beat, even cheap tasco's have got reasonably accurate adjustments(after a fashion) but Leupold, no!

I love Leupolds, and might be better watching the EE for a good used one. I refuse to buy cheapo scopes anymore. I have a POS Tasco 6-24x, and it is like looking through fog compared to my Leupolds.

I just bought the Leupold 8-16 VX-II for my .223. It works good for gophers but I would probably go a bit higher in magnification if I had the chance, but don't go with a cheap scope. You really notice the difference if you get to the high powers. I was looking at the Monarch but the leupold is very nice.
