Scope for 25 m to 200 m .22 Shooting - Comments Please

I am the proud owner of a new Savage Mk.II-BTVS which needs a scope. Nearly all of my recreational and competition smallbore rifle experience (years of it) has been at 20 m and 50 m.

Looking at trying .22 'long range' (100 m to 200 m) - some of you guys talked me into it. Please help me select a scope which hopefully can be used at 100 and 200, but will also work at 25 and 50. I realize that an adjustable objective is likely a 'must have'.

What about the Leupold VX-II 3-9 x 33 mm Rimfire scope with Adjustable Objective or a Bushnell Elite 3200 , say 4-12 x 40 mm with AO? Others?
Any advice, comments, help will be much appreciated.

Competitive shooting or just for fun? I shoot a .22 ( Lakefield Mark II) out to 200 yards regularly at our range. I also varmint hunt(gophers) at about 100-150 yards ( same gun... sometimes a lot closer that is why the lower power ). I use a 3x9x by 40 scope for both . If competitive shooting I recommend a 6x24 by 40 scope. IMHO

Thank you WT for the reply. I should have made it clear that the rifle/scope will be used for my own interest and enjoyment - always looking for a new challenge and learning experience. At this time, competitive "long range" .22 shooting is basically non-existent in N.S. unfortunately.
I hope to spur some interest in this.

If you are going to shoot out to 200 at targets, I would recommend as much power on the top end as you can hold confidently. I like at least 20X with 36X being even better at the longer ranges. 6-24AO should work well, since you can start at lower power and work up as your hold improves. Regards, Eagleye.

I shoot mostly off the bench, and I find my 6-24xAO is just right for the task. I can barely see the .22 caliber holes at 50 yards at 9x...there's no way you'll see where you're shooting at on the 100 yard and above range with a 3-9x scope.

Eagleye said it all, if you can find a Older Weaver T series made in Elpaso Texas I have them in 6x 50mm with A/O and had a TK lee 1/8min dot instaled they made these in 10x and i think bigger as well, they are a excellent scopes, you see them on ebay at times.

I use a Bushnell Elite 3200 5-15x Tactical to get my 22lr to 200...take a look at this thread....

the 5-15 is all you need for 200. Warning: shooting the 22lr at 200 is highly addictive....

I'm using a Mueller APV 4.5-14x40 AO on both my rimfire and centrefire 22's. The optics are sharp and you can easily see a 22 cal hole at 200 yards though it. I looked at the Tasco varmints and they got very distorted and blurry above around 14x.

and dark too.....about 5-10 f-stops of fall off at high magnification.

I'd recommend the Falcon Optics 4-14FFP with 0.1mil "metric" turrets. With a reticle and turrets both in mils, you can easily correct your misses by just measuring them with the reticle and dialing in the correction directly on the turrets. Once you've used that system, you'll never go back to a mismatched scope again.

I have a Lyman 32X, but trying it out for the first time at 100 meteres, I ran out of MOA adjustments up.
I will either purchase those Burris 20 MOA rings, or go back to the Weaver T-10 Micro-trac scope.
