I've got a 10TR coming, and am looking into a scope for it. The range I frequent goes to 300 yards. I can't see shooting past that very often.

I've got a spare Diamondback HP 3-12x44 that was on my M305. Sufficient? I've never shot past 100 before as it had its issues.

Should I be looking for more? What magnification works well at 300?

All depends how much you like to see. I think clarity is more important then magnification to a certain degree.
I have a 10 TR too, and I'm running a Vortex 4-24x50 with Low vortex rings. I like to see my target, very close.
My range is up to 300m.

The most important thing IMO is what you are shooting at. You can shoot a 10x scope at 1000 yards if you use the right target. If you want to try the Vortex use targets that work well for your reticle and something that YOU can easily hold dead center on at that distance. If you want to shoot at an MOA sized dot you need more magnification.

I have used the Bushnell Tactical elite 3200 fixed 10x scope to good effect. As the previous poster noted once you get passed 200, the size of the target becomes more of an issue, having a target that stands out will help.

What you have is just fine for 300 yards. I also second the notion that quality glass is better than higher magnification to an extent.

Like everyone has said, it depends what you want to shoot at. That being said, 10x should be fine. I shoot my M14S out to 475 yards weekly and it's scoped with a nice 3.5-10x. No prob shooting at paper targets, 10x10" and 2/3 IPSC steel targets. Your diamondback will do you fine out to 300!

10x works well to 300. I use a 2,5-10x vortex for service rifle competitions and have no issues aiming on a 2x4 center scoring area at 300. For 600yard work a 20 or 24x max makes things much easier for me. One of the tricks is to use a specific part of the center dot to precisely and consistently aim at your target. You'd be surprised at how your groups tighten up. If you are gonna shoot further I'd recommend investing in a higher magnification range.

I just got a 10PC off the EE, tried it with a 6-18x50AO Banner this weekend. With that much magnification I could easily see the hits on firewood at 150 yards, not that the clarity is anything to brag about. I think the more power the better when it comes to target shooting, the challenge is how still you can hold at that magnification.

Personally, either a 4-12x40 or a 5-15x50 with side parallax would make the rifle more practical as my target/varmint rifle, but the 6-18x50 will be better for load development so I'll stick with it for now.

What's your budget? Kinda hard to suggest an optic without knowing what you can afford.
Do you plan to do most of your shooting at 100yds with the odd shots out to 300?
I would stay away from Bushnell, in my opinion the best thing about them is the warranty. The optics clarity on them is meh.
Best bang for the buck is Sightron but if you can spend more then look at a used Nightforce off the EE.
For 100yds any scope will do but if you want to make small groups you need to see your target clearly and you can't do that through cheap glass.
In theory our scope should cost more than your rifle, you spent good money on an accurate rifle, putting an entry level optic on it will never allow you to see the true potential of your rifle.

For 300yds or less you don't need a lot of magnification but you do need clarity. 10x will do but more is better as you get further out there.
