So I'm contemplating scoping my 375H&H and I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions on which scopes would hold up under the recoil?

I'm looking in the middle of the road category as I really don't care about seeing the fleas on a moose's ass. Probably in the 2-4x range fixed power. Can't say I know a whole hell of a lot about scopes as currently I own only irons which is why I'm looking for suggestions. From reading I was kind of leaning towards something from the Vortex line as they supposedly give better bang for the buck. Thoughts?

I have a Leupold M8-4X on my 375 Ruger, formerly that scope was on my 375 H&H and also a 416 Rigby for a while. They've established a great durability record over the years on heavy recoiling rifles and I've never longed for more magnification. For really close range I remove the scope and use the open sights. You should be able to find a mint used one on the EE for around $250.

I've got a 3.5-10 x 40 Leupold VX3 with B&C reticle on one, and a 3-9 Zeiss Diavari-C on the other one. I've never wished I had less power.

There isn't anything cheap about shooting a .375, trying to save a couple bucks on the scope isn't worth it.

If you're sure about fixed power, I'll add another vote for the Leupold 4x M8. I prefer variables and have a VX3 on my .375R- the 1.5-5x20. I find it to be perfect for this application.

So I went with an EE special M8 4x. Actually it was a PM but same thing. I was rather tempted by a VX3 2.5x-8x but opted to go the cheaper route as I told my wife that I would get her a first hunting rifle. She's proving to have taste and that isn't cheap. By that I mean she likes the pretty ones and they aren't cheap.

Anyway next question is any recommendations on quick disconnect rings for this? It'll be going on a mauser 98 action and I believe these are a 1" tube.

Warne Maxima medium QD rings.

if you are going QD so you can use factory iron sights (as opposed to wanting to be able to swap scopes), the only practical answer is original extruded alloy weavers with the trough down the middle so you can see the sights. #46 and #45 if my memory is working.

You can use any nnumber of rings compatible with the weaver system, such as the Warnes pictured above, but the original Weavers work fine as QD's, as long as you tighten them evenly and consistently each time.

I'd say a Leupold VX 2 or 3 with lots of eye relief at it's highest setting. A wide field of view would be another thing to look at. Magnification is up to you, as I have no idea how or where you hunt. A hot loaded .375 can reach out and touch within 6" out to about 300 yds (maybe better for some) with a 200 yd. sight in. That's if the rifle & ammo are properly set up.
I wouldn't personally, get a reticle that's to busy or a target type (fine cross hairs). Weight shouldn't be too big issue, as most of the scopes in the type you will be looking at are probably a few ounces off. I would be looking at a slimmer type that would be as snag free as possible.
Get the best possible bases & rings; think about having the scope lapped into the rings. Although not as crucial as it use to be.
Butler flip up scope covers are about the best you can get for the money.
Have fun!
