I'm looking for a scope with a 4-12x zoom or stronger. But I cannot find anything with an adjustable parallax or one that is set for 50 yards. That the price is reasonable. $300 and under. I'm going to build a precision .22. I would like a little more zoom than a 3-9x. Any suggestions?

Thanks

"I'm going to build a precision 22lr, but wanna cheap out on a scope."...

You can find something used in the EE that'll meet your goals. Not sure if there is much in the way of new scopes for that price.

Go look on Prophet River in the Nikon reduced section I picked up a couple 3.5-14 pro staff 5's in there with adjustable parallax for $317 each reg $500.

for 'known distance' target shooting go for a minimum of 16x or more magnification with an adjustable parallax and a very thin cross hair or target dot.

For cheap 50 and 100 yard shooting a Mueller, Leapers or Tasco varmint would probably fit the bill...

My issue is the parallax adjustment. I have been trouble finding something adjustable or set for 50 yards with more than 9x zoom. Otherwise I'm quite happy with my cheap tasco 3-9x. If I'm spending the money I gotta get what I want. These scopes are around on the manufactor website. But trying to find one in store is a different story.

Fair question, especially because a lot of the precision comes from that thing between the rifle and the bench... (wink) Just as a decent rifle can be had for little money (ie, Savage Mk2 bolt gun for $500-ish - from site sponsors such as Al Flaherty's), and a decent scope can also be had for little money.

For scope at that distance, I use an antique Weaver scope with fine cross hair on my lever, but also like the Leapers/UTG 3-9X32 Compact CQB 'Bug Buster' for about $125, which is available from site sponsors like Marstar, or your favourite on-the-line marketplaces. As has been said, remember to check the EE, too.

Or you can spend thousands on both, including straight jacket, eye-patch, etc, etc. :)

Either way, good luck & happy shooting!

I guess my definition of a build is different than others. But ya, buying some sort of savage bolt action. Mounting a scope and calling it done.

I bought a Burris Timberline for my sons' .22 and the paralax will adjust down to 7 yards. It is a 4.5-14 x 32mm, decent eye relief but a tight eye pocket. Very clear glass, easy to shoot with both eyes open, I'm quite happy with it thus far.

I agree, these are a premium scope for that purpose, have great glass and don't suffer from lousy Chinese manufacturing tolerances.

I picked up a 5-15x Bushnell with Adjustable Objective, for the same purpose on the EE. I put it on an Anschutz Match 64, also purchased on the EE. There were a few good options at the time, this one fit the budget and had the most magnification of the units for sale at the time. I love it.

Also a great option is the Bushnell Elite 3200 fixed 10x if that floats your boat.
