Ho guys, i am in need of some heip.
I just got a 270 weatherby in a lazermark. Stunning rifle for those of us that like that sort of thing.
But i am at a total loss of what scope to put on it.
Being that the rifle is the Weatherby high gloss and deep blueing.
Gloss scope? Or stick with matte, as it is unlikely the the gloss will match anyway.
I am going to hunt with it. And my wife tells me the scratches will add caractor
But what say you?
Leupold with CDS in a 3-9x40? Or go higher in magnafcation?
Jump on the zeiss wagon?(i have a few from terra and up) but I don't think the qualify as pretty witch this rifle is.
Swarvoski? Z3
I would like to keep the price under $1000
Also serching for reloading components. Not as easy as the old 270win. Haha

Xreload has brass, or if you want to save a few bucks, get some Hornady 257Wbee and resize, or real cheap and resize 7mm rem brass.
Go gloss on the scope...keep it matching.

Gloss will look better but it's not a deal breaker IMO, matte will be fine. I would go with a leupold 4.5-14X44 boone & crocket reticle. Congrats on the new rifle.:)

That cartridge will reach out. I'd got 4.5-14 but keep the CDS. Cabela's happens to be having an ammo sale right now, their loaded ammo is the same price as brass plus it gives you something to shoot.

I ran a matte Leupold VX-L 3.5-10x50 B&C scope on my my blued Browning B-78 rifle in 270 Wby, and it looked good and performed well.
With the B&C reticle, I had the hashmarks for out to 500 yards. The cut out on the VX-L scope allowed for lower mounting of the scope.
Gloss on gloss is hard to match, but not as bad as stainless scopes for stainless rifles. As a hunting rifle, it can cause more reflections in the sunshine, which may be of concern when hunting animals in the mountains or on the open prairie. If it is a concern, go with matte, and reduce amount of glare.
Leupolds are great scopes and have a lifetime warranty.
If you decide on the Swarovski Z3, they are a great scope and you will be happy with it.

As a hunting rifle, it is going to get wet, dirty and pick up marks and scratches over time. How much will just depend on you and the environments. Some hate that, while others view them as memories of adventures and hunts with family, friends and special trophies. Only you can determine which it will be for you.

The cartridge you are shooting matters a whole lot less than the distance that you will be shooting... the size of the target (game) comes into play also... if this is a mountain rifle or a prairie rifle, you may want to go with a 4.5-14X40, but the 3.5-10X40 range is a standard for hunting scopes... I have more Leupold 3.5-10X40 B&C scopes than anything else... 10X is sufficient for 350 yard shooting, beyond that, you might benefit from the extra 4X on the top end. If you won't be shooting beyond 300 yards and want to lighten up and go more compact, the Leupold VX-3 2.5-8X36 is a good scope too. My varmint rifles (small target, long"ish" shooting) in .222, .223, .22-250 and .220 Swift mostly wear VX-3 4.5-14X40mm Varmint Hunters reticle scopes, as does my 6.5 RM Mountain rifle, my standard hunting rifles (deer sized game to 300 yards) in .257 R, 6.5X55, 7X57, .243, .260, .308 & .30/06 wear VX-3 3.5-10X40 B&C scopes, my medium bore rifles (under 250 yards on heavier game) in .358 Win, .35 Whelen, .350 RM and 9.3X62 as well as my .303 Brit & 7.62X39 MKII wear VX-3 2.5-8X36 B&C scopes, my heavier "thumper" rifles (short"ish" range on all game) in .405 Win, .44 Mag and .45/70 wear VX-3 1.5-5X20 German #4 reticle. So, try to spec your scope for the distance and the game, rather than solely the cartridge ballistics... hopefully you have already considered distance and game in choosing your cartridge.

I've got a couple 270 'bees with VX3 SF 4.5-14s on both. A decent 130-140 bullet (130 NBT, 130 Scirocco 11, 140 NBT and AB) will support 300 m zeros and be quite usable out to 650 yards with just a B&C, but if you wanted to go CDS and Windplex that would work too. For a few more bucks and a bit more weight a 3-15 VX-5 have some serious glass, and locking CDS turrets.

I wouldn't worry about the gloss/matte thing.

I just bought a Leupold VX3i 3.5x10x40 for 497.00 shipped to my door from Prophet River they have a sale on them right now. I am putting it on my 270WSM had that combo before it works well for me.

That price so so stupidly reasonable that a guy would be smart to pick one up just to have on the shelf. It's exactly the scope I would pick up for that rifle. Might need one for my 7 Bee.
