Scope for a Rimfire

I've be been trying to find a fixed 4x Nikon Prostaff for my .22 but they seem to have been discontinued.I find 4x quite adequite for most of my casual target shooting and small game hunting.Even bushnell fixed 4x rimfire has served well for my shooting

Look for a good scope for a rimfire rifle. (Savage 64)

Define "good"? Are you talking $600 good or closer to $1600 good? If the latter I highly recommend the Zeiss Conquest HD5 3-15x42. 50 yard parallax, good glass and made in Germany :)

Its a Savage 64, a nice, inexpensive, little and somewhat accurate semi-auto. I had two 64s in the past. No disrespect. Just saying, not dissing the rifle.

I'd use this inexpensive Tasco scope, why spend more? https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0000V2BLU/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Its got everything you need for a short range 22 like the 64. Not the best optics, and could use a bit more field of view, but great value for the money, IMO. I got two of these mil dot scopes at $97.00 each. Now they are only $75.00 plus tax and with free shipping.

If you're not wanting to spend alot maybe look into the scorpions. I've read a few bad reviews on them but heard lots of good things as well. I won a marksman 3-9 in a shoot last year and thought I'd give it a try on my marlin 60. It's actually a pretty decent little scope. It has the mildots and they are right on out to 200 yds (hit a 10" plate every shot anyway)using CCI mini mags. I think they're around the $100 range and have great warranty. Stan at hunters Haven in Wingham told me any problems with it just bring to him and he ll hand me a new one no questions asked. They're not a Nikon by any means but still a good scope for the price. Just seen on their website they have their stinger 3-9x40 on for $119 right now. Comes with 22lr turret and free shipping.

I have one on sale here. Barska contour 3x9 40mm. Used on a 22 mossberg. Illuminated reticle. Like new.

Plinking for the most part & some gopher hunting

I don't know what the accuracy potential is of those Savage 64s, but were the gun mine...I'd be looking at that gun's scope needs differently than I would my CZ452 Varmint, or, any other very accurate bolt gun. My only semi is a very decently accurate Marlin 795 and that gun has a used, Chinese "Rex" AO Airgun scope on it I paid $50 for. Zero desire to upgrade, but maybe if I shot the gun more...that would change.

To your question though, the last scope I bought for a .22 was a Sightron S1 4-12x AO HHR. I bought it form Hirsch Precision (a CGN sponsor, Peter is an outstanding guy) and I've been very pleased with it. I put it on my CZ452 Varmint and with that combo, put an untold number of gophers to rest during a week of shooting in S. Alberta last spring. Great scope for that, and I can say that with some authority. :) Expect to pay about $300 +/- for one of those.

For used scopes in the EE, look for ones with AO..here are a few options. OF these, the Redfield might be of some temptation, but I'd probably start searching for vintage Bushnell Banners. I have a few of those on guns, 4-12AO, 6-18AO and it's not hard to find a 4-12AO around $150 or less.

I'd pick the redfield but I am biased lol. I do however have several of these and next to Bausch & Lomb and Leupold I feel they are a great scope for the money. Adjustable objective is a must if you like to use high magnification up close.

Leupold VX-1 series aren't too expensive, in the $200- $300 range, and are fantastic scopes.

For field shooting I like lower powered variable... I have a VX1 2x-7x on my CZ-452 and it's very nice - a deadly combo in the gopher patch. Because the glass is so clear, it's easier to shoot well than a 3x-9x or 4x-12x scope from cheaper brands.

Magnification doesn't help if the glass is crappy and either gets "grainy" or very dark in anything other than ideal light conditions.

Seriously guys, the savage 64 is a plinking and short range (25 meter) hunting rifle. It needs a plinking scope.

But if I had to buy a scope right now, the Bushnell Banner on the EE that 22lrGuy pointed out would be perfect.

One of my favourites for general use is the Bushnell AR Tactical. Side parallax, external turrets and bdc to boot. Price is nice too.
