Hi all. I'm looking for a long eye relief scope for a scout rifle, and I was thinking, handgun scopes are typically very long eye relief, like around 18" eye relief. Is there any reason one would not opt for a handgun scope for a forward mouted optic on a rifle? I would think the only problem would be the parallax, probably set to 50 yards and maybe recoil.
Thanks,

Fred

Just scoped a Steyr Cooper Scout, for a friend, with a Leupold FX-II 2.5 IER..I found it to be a good scope for this aplication, while sighting it in...

Handgun scopes with their 16" of eye relief are not the answer for a scout type rifle. You need an intermediate eye relief scope with 9"-13" of eye relief like the EER Leupold or the Burris Scout . . .

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking a Leupold FX2, 2.5x28, but the few places I have looked its not a stock item. I was thinking alternatives, but will probably go for the Leupold. I will check out the Burris though.

I just learned that Leupold also has a 2-4x28 IER scope, but it has to be ordered through their custom shop, so that means it's probably not available here. Frig, ITAR sucks!

Go with a Leupold FX-II 2.5 IER Scout Scope, and get the Heavy Duplex reticle. That's what I had on my Steyr Scout, and it worked very well.
