scope for my new to me savage 17hmr

I had a few different 3x9s on my savage 93r17 and I found at 100 yards it was difficult to see the bullet impacts on the target

I bought a barska 6x24x50 for $180 and its the best thing I bought for it, works well out to 200 yards

Hello tangospike99. For my part glass with 14 or 16 magnification is quite enough. I've put a Mueller APV on my Z-5 in WMR and i love it. In 2011 i'll get myself a .17 HMR and will try Mueller APT or Burris Timberline 4.5X14. Keep us posted.

i use a 3-9 on my mine because i hate adjusting the objective lense. i use mine for gopher/crow control.

i would say that your magnification needs depend on what you want to shoot. if i was shooting targets to 200m, i'd jump up to a 6-25x, or a 16x. but if you are using it for pest control/hunting then i'd recommend something that you can aquire targets fast and not have to mess with the AO (fixed 4x, 2-7x or 3-9x). escpecially if you are shooting off hand. shooting from a bench a AO is not bad.

I recently purchased a Mueller....and a biggie..for my CZ 452 Varmint .17 HMR. Here she is;

Physically a huge scope, but my goal is to really get to know the .17 HMR and try some of those super-long shots this little rimfire is rumored to be capable of. I wanted side-focus, at least 24X magnification, very fine reticle, and ALSO wanted 1/8" adjustment. (for better or worse, time will tell) Budget was also a consideration, I wanted it to be in around $300.

I haven't shot the gun, or zeroed the scope...but I can't wait. :) From what I can tell, it should be a nice shooter. A crappy photo (goofed around with photobucket) with the sun shade on 'cuz you know...the scope isn't big enough w/o it! :D If it were much longer, it would get warm when I shot the gun.

I should also add, White Falls were EXCELLENT people to deal with. Not sure if they're a CGN sponsor or not, but I highly recommend them.

In order for most folks to give suggestions on scopes, they will need to know your intended purpose. Is this a target rifle, pest control, what range will you be shooting, etc.
