I am seeking suggestions for a scope and base for my P14. Stock had been previously cut down but the rest seems original and in good condition.

Haven't scoped a rifle before - eyes tell me its getting tough to use open sights so any help would be appreciated.

Anyone had good, bad, ugly experience with the S & K Insta Mounts and whether to look at Weaver style base or split rings? Or any others?

Also looking for suggestions on a suitable scope with good parallax adjustment.

Thanks in advance for any help!

You're going to be condenmed no matter what you do. A Pattern 14 may be a candidate for restoration. Depends on what has been done to it. The rifle already been drilled and tapped? Barrel been cut, etc.
S&K kit is low end stuff. You get what you pay for. If the rifle is too far bubba'd, regular bases will be stronger. Any normal hunting scope will do. 2.5 to 8, 3 to 9, etc.

S&K Insta-Mount for P-14 and US M-1917 works just the same; same beast.

They are a tad on the expensive side but you don't have to drill any holes, so you save $$$ on that.

They are well-built and immensely strong. I have sold many and never had one come back.

I use them on my own rifles.

They are available in 2 versions, one for Weaver rings, the other for their own proprietary rings. I recommend the model suited to Weaver rings: they are cheaper and much easier to find if you break something or lose something.

The S&K mount holds its zero very nicely.

I don't think you will have any problems with it. It replaces the rear sight on your P-14 and does not prevent the rifle from an eventual restoration.

Am I sure? I intend to put one onto Serial Number 305: a pre-production rifle. That's how sure I am.
