Hey all,

Got myself a new build going:
Remington 700p,
EGW 1 piece rail,
Harris Bipod,
Rings are likely to be vortex tactical...

Looking for input on my options for glass:

Bushnell Elite Tactical 10x 40mm
Bushnell Elite Tactical 5-15x 40mm
Vortex HS-T 4-16X 44mm
Vortex HS-T 6-24x 50mm

I like the idea of a fixed power and don't have the funds for a Mark 4 fixed power... Took a look at the Vortex 6-24x and felt like it might be a bit much, but useful to have..

Intended range will be 300 yards since I'm limited with local ranges...

Any recommendations are useful as well!
Trying to keep glass under $900.

I would take a pass on the Vortex scopes you are looking at.
I saw 2 Vortex Viper 6 - 24 X 30mm PSTs go down in a championship match due to internal moisture and fogging.
The issues were covered under warranty.

Out of the other two I would say the Bushnell Elite Tactical 5-15x 40mm.

Maybe have a look at Sightron.A lot of shooters say good things about them.

Other option is to save up $$$$$$ and step up to a Nightforce.........or save up more and go S&B. ;)

Go with a 6-24 Sightron SIII or a Night force SHV. I have both of these scopes and they have served me well. You might need to extend your budget by a few hundred though. Keep an eye in the classifieds and you may find a SIII for $900-$1200.

I have SIII 8x32 and the older Elite 4200, 4X16 and 8x32.
I like high mag even at 300 yards.

But Based on what you said here I think the Elite 5-15 is a pretty good option.

Just an oppinion.

I am range limited to 300 yards as well. On my Remington 700P .308 I've used a Leupold Vari-X II 6-18X40 with target turrets that I had installed by Korth. For not crazy money it has been an excellent scope that tracks perfectly. Sure I'd put Nightforce on everything if I had that kind of money but I don't.

I have a sightron S-Tac 3-16. It is a nice scope. Im not much of a scope ''connaisseur'' but I like it. My only complain is the magnification ring is very big and it will touch my scope base so this limits eye relief if I want to keep decent heigh rings. Also, the mag ring has VERY SHARP cutouts. I rip my thumb joint skin the first time I used it whilst cocking the rifle.

One thing to consider at 300 yards is a good scope will allow you to see bullet holes in your target, a budget scope might not. You'll then be looking at spotting scopes to see your target. Investing in a better scope will save you on a spotting scope, something to consider. My NightForce NXS at 22x shows holes clearly at 300 meters, my Vortex PST was a bit harder to see through at 24x magnification. No doubt a Sightron would allow you to see your target clearly too.

Spend as much as you can afford on a scope. You can always upgrade the gun later to match a better scope.

But keep in mind if you get a good deal on a vortex, it will hold its value pretty well due to their transferable warranty.

Read reviews and then get the best you can afford.
I have a couple SIII 6-24x. Try one and you'll see why. Never had an issue, track perfect, clear, and affordable.

Sightron SIII 10x40 or the Vortex 6-24 even if the Vortex will be a stretch for your budget.

Skip the Bushnell. They track but the glass is awful.
