So last year I picked up an older model Sako AV in 30-06 as a moose gun for here in Ontario. I'm looking to put a scope on it and am just wondering if the Bushnell elite 3200 3-9x40 that I have is satisfactory and will hold up to the demands on it. I was thinking of heading up to cabelas to take a look at the vortex viper that's on sale right now but if the 3200 is enough I'd prefer not spending any $$$. Should I have any concerns with the 3200 on the AV or will it do the job?

I think the first thing is to determine if the rings (that you intend to use) and the scope 'body' (ie length between the bells) of the elite 3200 3-9x40 will allow you to position the scope to allow for you to get proper eye relief. For example if you use the early Sako integrated ring/bases on a 30/06 length action you need a fairly long scope body to achieve some adjustment for eye relief...
I second this. I had trouble mounting several 3200's over the years , especially on long action guns. Savages always needed one, if not two extension bases for me to get the right relief. They are pretty much a bullet proof scope, so if it fits and gives you the right amount of eye relief, you should not need another scope. I've shot many 3200's on lots of different calibers. (including .300winmag and a .338winmag) and they never gave up the ghost.
I should add to my first post, my 3200 had to be removed from the 270, and now works on the 10/22. It seems to hold zero fine, but it does not track properly, you need to click, then bump the scope as the reticle moves very erratic. The 22 does not matter as using more ammo to sight in is cheap and easy, and the 10/22 I don't adjust once set up. ( 90% of the time it runs a red dot anyway )
