Any recommendations for a scope for a Savage model 10 heavy barrel in .308.

Just starting to shoot long-range. I was thinking a Burris or Redfield? What would be the best value for your money if you were to spend about $300?

Thanks,

Scott.

You do not mention distance to be shot. Parallax is a source of error that increases group size, so you want a scope with a parallax adjustment so you can dial it out at each distance you shoot.

$300 is a bit low.

I have had good service from Super Snipers in 20X and 16X fixed power. They cost me about $400 each.

A good rule of thumb for the long range precision stuff is that if you buy a cheaper scope now,you will just end up buying a better one later on and will have wasted that few hundred bucks. Add to that that you are shooting a little bigger caliber and how long will a cheap scope hold true?

I was in the same boat you are about 3 months ago. I wanted to spend about $300 but ended up spending $550 on a Minox ZA5 6-20x50. I do t regret it at all. I've now bought a Minox 8-30x56 for my savage 10 BA and will move the other one over to my .17 HMR. Great glass for the money.

Got the Bushnell fixed 10X mil dot. Compared to my second choice (Vortex) the glass seemed a lot clearer. I liked the mil dot reticle, the simplicity (no mag adjustment so no parallax adjustment), settable turrets and now I can learn how to use the mil dot. Thanks for all the suggestions.
