Hey guys,

I recently purchased a Swiss Arms Black Special. I'm looking for a nice scope to compliment this awesome rifle. I'd like to keep the price around $500-$700. So far I've been looking at a Leupold VX-3 and the Meopta Meostar R1. I'm pretty new to the rifle world as I have primarily been a handgun guy in the past... thought I'd ask the experts here...

any thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks!
Chris

This is what I would put on it;)

A black special is on my must buy list:p

Well, something in your price range would hardly "compliment" the rifle...

:p

But seriously, look into the Vortex line of scopes. The Viper PST series of riflescopes start at $589 and are excellent value scopes.

thanks for the feedback so far guys, keep em coming!

I know my price range will really limit me to something mediocre... but after selling my first born for the rifle itself, funds are a bit low... and the wife is being a bit of a dictator.

Soo, I'm selling my digital SLR to fund the scope... I figure $500-$700 will give me something better than the iron sights (not that there's anything wrong with em).

Thanks again guys... I appreciate your suggestions!

If you have the normal black special version and it still has the iron sights, try it out a couple of times with the irons alone. Most guys that try the irons tend to like them and stick with them. They are good and accurate out to the three or four hundred. Once you get comfy with the irons, you might have second thoughts about both the need of an optic and of adding another two to three pounds to it.

You can always get an optic once you figure there is still a need for it and you have more time to save up.

I have more of these than I care to tell, only 2 in Canada Now. The right optic in your price range is a Bushnell elite 2.5-16x50. Most of mine wear 2.5-10x24 in NF, will be switching to S&B 1-8 on all of them once it has the bugs worked out and its ready for market. Sightron makes a good optic for the money, used leupolds are a great buy as the warranty is good for life and its as good as buying new. Just keep in mind, buy cheap buy twice.

Agree on the NF 2.5-10 - my favorite scope for this rifle. Lower powered variable scopes suit this gun very well.

I'd go ultralite series, i.e. Leupold 2-7x I believe..with Leupy Aluminium rings..

If not, the next & best choice I know would a Trijicon Acog RCO-A4 (Pre calibrated for a 20''). both are winners in my books. If price would not be an issue, S&B 1-8x :)

Remember weight is a bit of an issue on the Swiss 55X.

Nothing wrong with irons either. I had mine for half a year before I put optics on it. If funds are tight, shoot irons for a while and save up for a better scope.

Or you could do what the guy next to me at the range on Sunday did, and put a Bushnell Banner on yours... :p

I just sold a bushel elite 6500 2.6-16 that would have been perfect, don't let the high dollar crowd talk you intonhigh dollar scopes. Bushnell makes a good product in your price range along with buris sightron and millet. You are not running through the jungle so lesser optics are just fine.

Beauty... Thanks guys. I have some serious thinking and comparing to do!

I will be using the rifle primarily for target shooting (indoor and outdoor). I don't hunt, but that's not to say I won't in the future.

That said, a pretty reliable source at my local gun store suggested the Bushnell 5-15 Elite 4200. I will be looking to purchase from fellow CGN'er in the equipment exchange. Let me know if you have a nice scope you'd be willing to part with.

Thanks again guys... you all make this site AWESOME!

Cheers,
Chris
