Recently purchased a Weatherby Vanguard S2, and after mounting bases on it, none of the scopes I have (have) enough tube to work. What are you guys running on yours? It's chambered in .257, so probably need a 12x. Thanks for any input.:)

I recently picked up an S2 in 22-250. I mounted a Zeiss conquest 3-9x40 on it using Leupold 2 piece STD bases and burris med sig zee rings. I have lots of wiggle room on the body fore and aft adjustments - but then again the zeiss does have a nice long body. I can't imagine a rifle that the Zeiss couldn't be mounted on :)

BTW - nice rifle and great caliber. I'm very happy with mine - can't beat the value! Really like the 2 stage trigger as well,

I've got 3-9 VX2s, 4-12 AO VX2, 3.5-10 VX3, 3.5-10 Mark 4, 4.5-14 VX3, 4.5-14 VX3 LR and a 6-18 VX2 scope mounted on Vanguards. Two of those are S2s, although it doesn't make any difference for scope mounting.

My S2 Lazerguard in .257 has a 4-12 VX2 on it. It required medium height rings and if I remember correctly at least one set rings was wide enough that there wasn't enough room for the scope to drop in. Double Dovetails will shorten up the spacing too. Maybe you just need a mounting solution instead of a different scope?

I think you may be right Dogleg. I got the better half to grab me plain vanilla Weaver (35 & 36 IIRC), and with low or medium Leupold rings, the magnifier ring? on the scope touches the rear of the rear base. Sorry for sounding stupid, but what are double dovetail rings?

Which Leupold scope are you trying to mount now? Which Leupold rings? PRWs and QRWs are quite wide, and a slimmer ring like a Burris can give a little wiggle room. Maybe enough to make it work.

Double Dovetail mounts use two twist in "Redfield Pattern" rings instead just one on the front and a two screw auto loosening abortion on the back. In some cases the base is set up to move the rear ring farther ahead which I find useful for getting scopes away from my noggin. They are very sturdy system for people who aren't planning on ever taking their scope off.

I have many (many) vanguards. The Talley lightweight one piece rings bring the mounting points in a bit. I've never had any problem mounting Leupolds or Elites on the long actions vanguards (s2 or s1)

When I get home tomorrow I'll give you a run-down of which Leupolds fit with which specific rings and bases. I've got 9 Vanguards with Leupolds mounted, we should be able to figure something out.
