Does anybody know of a relativley easy way to measure my scope height without any fancy tools? Looking for another input for my ballistics program and am not sure. Thanks fellow Gunnutters.
Use a measuring tape and measure from the center of the bore (or as close as you can) to the center of the front objective.
Generally if you rest the tape on the top of the stock close to the front of your scope you should be pretty close to the center of your bore or close enough for what you are needing.
To save all the fiddling trying to get the centers of the scope and barrel.
Scope objective diameter divided by two, plus
barrel diameter at scope objective divided by two, plus
distance from bottom of scope objective to top of barrel.
If you are careful, that is pretty much dead on.

The measurement in by ballistic program asks for sight line above the bore.
The 0bjective diameter calculation is the same as the centre of the scope tube but the formula I use is:
1/2 the bolt diameter + the distance between the bolt and scope tube + 1/2 the scope tube diameter.
.35" + .75 + .5 = 1.6"
My program allows for one decimal place, and a tenth of an inch makes no appreciable difference . . . to a deer at 200 yards anyways.
Remove bolt
Insert cleaning rod from rear
Ensure cleaning rod is centered and aligned with the bore (not drooping out the back).
Measure between rod and center line of occular.
Easy and close enough! (The more accurate way is the way Coaltrain did it!)
