Scope mount - Benelli Super Nova - Problems

I have owned two steady grip super novas that are drilled and tapped for a scope mount. I used a Weaver 423 mount on one and found that it wouldnt fit due to the raised portion of the rear of the receiver. After filing the bottom of the base to clear this raised section, it worked fine, but was a PITA to do this.

In my internet searches, I could not find the answer if a mount for a Benelli M2 or SBE would fit the super nova. I ordered a camo Burris mount 410608 which fits these shotguns and it fits the Super Nova steady grip hole pattern perfectly. The only issue is that the supplied screws are too short to reach the steel plate - you will need 4 longer 6-48 thread screws.

Hope this helps anyone else in the same position.

I went to put a Burris camo base on my Benelli Supernova today. The mount was for their SBE /M2 models which fit the hole pattern perfectly. The screws are too short (which I knew) so I went to install longer screws.

The problem I ran into was the shotgun, which came drilled and tapped from the factory, is not a 6/48 thread, or a 8/40 thread. In one hole, the 6/48 screw goes right through, in the others, it just catches the thread, but not enough to engage or tighten up.

Does anyone know what thread size Benelli tapped the mount holes?

After quite a while, got this sorted out. The thread size is metric M4.

The Burris M2 / SBE mount fits the holes perfectly and I first tried the screws out of a Weaver 423M mount, they were too long and hit the bolt. I then had to buy a box of M4 x 10 screws from Fastenall as they wouldnt sell me 4 of them. If you need any, please PM me and I will send them to you for the cost of postage.

The Weaver 423M mount made for the Nova will not fit the SN without modification. The hole spacing is fine but the rear of the mount wont clear a moulded ridge on the rear of the receiver. The mount needs to be filed or cut to a shorter length to clear. This mount is quite thick and requires long mounting screws, which are the proper M4 thread.

The Weaver 93AT (48339) for the Benelli Super Black Eagle has the proper hole spacing and length, but wrong mounting screws - they are the wrong thread and too short. The M4 x 10 screws will attach the mount to the receiver with no issues. This mount is quite a bit thinner than the 423M.

Hope this may help some one else out before turkey season!
