I have a 1903 Mannlicher Schoenauer carbine that I bought here. It came with a Weaver side mount (not installed), that the seller said was correct for this rifle., but it isn't. It has the angled base, marked " 1", that would place the scope way off to the starboard side. Can anyone tell me correct base model # ??
If you have one for sale, let me know. I would also be interested in other brands of scope mounts for a 1903 MS.

I have this posted in the optics forum as well.

Griffin and Howe are still in the business since the 1930's making side mounts, rings etc. which would look right at home on your Mannlicher Schoenauer, but also a bit spendy.
Weaver website doesn't seem to show a side mount for your gun.

I am hoping someone with an old Weaver catalogue checks for me. I did check the current online edition and came up empty. Thanks for the lead on the EAW mounts. I sent them an email.

ww w.vintagegunscopes.com has a list of a number of Weaver sidemounts. M-S is not mentionned. Might be worth an email to find out if they know of a base.

Be wary of Vintage Gun Scopes I have a selection of Buehler micro-dial bases and ring sets I offered to sell them and they offered $25 for the works then sell them for $100 + each.

There was an article in either Rifle or Handloader magazine that dealt with this - I have it at camp, and just did a google search on it - and couldnt find it.

The next time I am there I can grab it and scan it if you want.

I have some of the Williams side mounts here if you would be interested in one of those pm me.
Intersurplus at the top of the page might have one of the Swedish side mounts to sell you.

19631433[/URL]]AP,
Turns out Conetrol does not make a mount for the 1903, but they sent me to another company that does.
Hope that works out for you… let us know how you make out in the end.

as for Conetrol - imo they have always been THE class act for a gentleman's rifle.

KFeruson - you .. and others may wish to look here:

Archive.org is a wonderful source and they have a digital copy freely available of Frank DeHaas' EXCELLENT book - 'Bolt Action Rifles'

the link will take you to the section on the 'Greek' 1903 MS and there are some observations of 'smithing' this action... also the use of a Weaver sidemount fwiw.

IF others are going to reference this excellent publication please give DeHaas his due for the wonderful work he did putting this together - he deserves it! Of course MS is certainly not the only rifle action he discusses in detail in this book ... as you can readily see by 'paging' through it.
