Hi,
I'm looking for some experienced input on my .303 No4 Mk1* Enfield.
I have a nice sportered .303 which i'd like to deer hunt with this fall. I would like a scope mount which fastens to the existing reciever hardware. I do not want to drill and tap. Any ideas?? And how about some scope recommendations. My shots will be no farther than 75- 100 yards max and I hunt in some heavilly wooded areas.

The S & K mount attaches to the existing No. 4 receiver with no modifications required. It provides a Weaver mount to which Weaver rings can then be attached. I have one and it is great.
 
Look for a Parker hale, mount and rings.
Every gunshow I have gone to has them for sale, and IMHO they work great.
 
Might work on a No. 8, if the rear sight pivot holes and charger bridge in the receiver are identical to the No. 4.
PH Lee Enfield mounts work, but require drilling and tapping.

Not sure if this is an answer to the questions, but here is some pics I took this morning. My sportered #4 uses the PH A29 set.

Only PH rings work on PH mounts.

Very solid, and stays to zero quite well after having the scope off for transport or storage.

Of course this will block the use of a charger, and require drilling and tapping.
 
Yep, S&K and another one similar(ATI?) are the only ones that I know that do not require some holes drilled. I like the parker hale side mounts the best and another system where a weaver base is attached at the front and the original rear "flip up " sight is machined to the same shape as a weaver base for the back.Both of these require machining. Another one is a 22 style rail that requires 3 holes drilled ,but then you can only use 22 style rings.

The PH side mount system will get your scope to sit the lowest to the gun of any of them. I had the S&K mount before and it made the scope sit waaaaay up high.
 
.... As soon as I get off my butt, I'm going to be ordering a set (1 piece) mount through Marstar for my no.4 It's an interim measure until I can get all the pieces together to make up a "Clone" (T) ! ..... made of metal, in the US, and requires no drilling or tapping ! ... David K. ....
 
I use the B-Square mount ( no drill/tap) and a 2.5x Ruko scope for hunting in the cedar swamps of Bruce County , depending on where and just how thick the brush is. Shots there are also within 100yd .
With the B-Square , I found there was abit of fitting to ensure a good hold but the "fitting" was easy enough .It's since held very well , in and out of the truck , case and after a few 100 rounds on the range.....and I also dropped it once ...

Question for the No4 ATI mount users...
I have one of these and I'll be putting it to use soon on another No4.
Is there anything needed to ensure a secure hold other than whats given in the ATI package ?
 
.... And then there is the option of a "Scout Mount" type installation.... always felt that a short barreled SMLE would make a damn good Scout Rifle ! ..... David K. .....
 
I've used the B-Square on many No 4's, a few No 5's, and I currently have one on a No 8. From time to time you may have to make slight adjustments to make it fit, but that is only due to the variences in No 4 style actions. I have heard others here complain about the B-Square mounts, but I have had nothing but good luck with them. My $0.02 worth.
