I have a Rem m81 and it appears that it had a scope mount on it at one time , as the rifle has 4 extra tapped holes on the left side . Which mount would most likely have been used ?

Might have been an old Pachmayer flip off side mount.

I'd have to see the gun to know for sure.

Are the holes straight across or two higher than the other two?

Or do you suppose it might have been drilled and tapped for one of those old style Lyman peep sights that had the long arm.... my 68 yr. old memory cannot recall the model # of that particular sight....

That would be a model 21 probably and they only needed two holes drilled in the side.

Starting to wonder if maybe it was a Williams mount like this?

Mad Dog the holes are on the left side of the receiver ,where it says Woods Master Model 81 and after comparing to your pic there are 5 tapped holes , 1 at each end of the word Woodsmaster and 2 below the words Model 81 and the 5th in the middle of the group to form an x pattern . Do they still make the mount that would match these mounting holes ?

I found picture on Google and the mount is described as a Stith mount , and the mounting holes are in the same place , is there another modern mounting system that would compatible so I don`t have to d&T the receiver again ?

I wondered about the Stith mounts. I've got a few sets for Savage 99's here and a set for a pre 1964 Winchester 70. Also have a set that I don't know what it fits, I'm thinking an early rimfire of some sort.

Theres a set of the ones you need on Gunbroker right now. If you ask the guy real nice he might ship to Canada, who knows.
