I have a no.4 sporter with a cut barrel I picked up had drilled several years ago for a standard weaver mount. I used it for my first hunting rifle. But I've since moved onto more modern rifles and the rifle has been sitting.

I want to screw a 7.62 DCRA takeoff barrel I have into it rather then find another doner rifle. But am concerned about the holes and strength. I was going to fill the holes with some screws filed flush and some locktite 603 and refinish the whole thing anyways.

Are the holes concerning? I know some are mixed on the No.4 and the 7.62 so just want to see what people think.

Thanks.

Are you talking about the Weaver T0 1 mount that uses Weaver tip-off rings? If so, the rifle will be safe for a 7.62 conversion assuming that everything else is in order. Filling the holes with screws would be purely cosmetic.

Problem is I want a long branch and they are sold out of them.
Can’t have mine. I have a couple Long Branch rebuilds in the works. Just need the forearms and rear rings.
I emailed Marstar and asked when they would be getting more parts and got a stupid answer. We occasionally order these parts in. So you don’t know or haven’t bothered checking with higher ups to see when is what I got out of that.

The answer is academic without photos, diameters or numbers. The left sidewall of a No.4 is weak, but that is where the British put the four screw holes for the No.4(T) pads. Two holes in the receiver ring is not necessarily bad.

I wouldn’t worry about it, the weaver T0-1 rail is d&T’d into the charger bridge and the top of the receiver ring the barrel is screwed into. Have two that have been drilled for this mount, the threaded receiver holes aren’t that deep.

Think about how thick the barre is at the chamber end, then the remaining receiver ring thickness.

The one on the left has had an extra hole added to the charger bridge as the one in the middle was botched when someone drilled the rear most hole.
