I am looking to mount a low power scope on a 500 for deer season this fall. I also hunt grouse with the same arm and I would like to be able to use the bead sight as well. I have interchangeable barrels, smooth and rifled with iron sights.
I am looking for advice from people who have mounted scopes as which way might work the best.
There seem to be three ways to go about this, receiver mounted rail (which would block bead?), saddle mount ( Aimtech , which would seem to leave sights clear), and a cantilever scope mount on the rifled barrel.
Which would work the best in the field and which would still allow me to use the shotgun for grouse? I realize that buying another firearm might be the BEST solution but I want to explore ALL options before I make that decision.
Right now I am leaning towards the Aimtech saddle mount because I have been unable to find a cantilever mount for my barrel.
Thanks in advance
Blake
