alrighty guys, sorry it has to be a motivational poster, but its the only pic i can find which shows what im meaning. this guy has his scope mounted with both rings forward of his adjustment knobs ..

is this good practise ? ive never seen it done before but im considering it on my M14 because i cant get hold of a long ( enough ) eye relief scope .

what do you think ?

BAD idea.

It will physically work, but the whole point of having the rings spaced as far apart as possible, is to reduce the ammount of scope wobble when shooting (check out videos of the AI AS-50 shooting in slow-mo from future weapons)

If you put both rings in front of the knobs like that, its gonna put a lot of stress, and introduce a LOT of wobble into the rear end of the scope. Could lose zero.

Consistancy is accuracy! :D

The only reason that thing looks like that, is the guy didn't have a scout type scope, and he didn't have the full length Vltor scope rail on the top. Theres 2 versions, one with the rail cut off before the reciever, and one with an extended top rail that attaches into the stripper clip guide. That would be the one you'll need if your using standard eye relief optics.

yeah thats the one i really wanted but not so easy to find here in NZ .

i have tracked down a cheap scout scope, i dont do a whole bunch of shooting and seem to just rent guns :p so it will probably work out in the long run.
plus im going to custom camo the whole thing and i dont wanna be painting on a $1000 plus leupold
