Scope mounting

Take is easy on a newb okay....my question is on scope mounting. Is there a rule of thumb regarding the clearance between the eye piece of a scope and the bolt handle? Also, does the calibre influence the spacing at all?

As long as they're not touching and you can move the bolt freely, you're ok. Just make sure you have enough extra space if you want to add eyepiece covers too.
