What do ya'll think of the new double dovetail Leupold bases and rings. I have never used them but they look recoil proof, if not these what would you recommend for recoil level of the 378. All my heavy rifles have had either 602 Brno mounts or custom made ones........what's good off the shelf for a Mark V?

I run steel Talley mounts on my big rifles.....no issues so far but can't see an issue with the Leupolds either.

The DD's tend to be really good, but if you are willing to wait I have it on good account the S&K's are the ticket for the violent disposition of the .378 case family. Not to mention they look ###y.
That said I suspect you'll go straight for the Leupold DDs and never look back.

Is there a new Double Dovetail? The only one I know about is the same one that has been around since forever. I like the double dovetails because they never move and on some rifles I can get the rear ring a bit farther ahead. Useless for rifles with iron sights, but that doesn't matter most of the time. On a .378 Id want the irons and a set of detachable rings of some sort.

The old windage adjustable "Redfield pattern" auto-loosening pieces of crap have one redeeming quality. If you have two sets of them you can throw away the back rings and make one set out of two. A couple of them could make an interesting decoy anchor.

You already bought the scope and mounts so what are you on about?

Honestly, I like the DD system. I can't see you having problems with it. If you manage to make the scope move then I would recommend talking to Alberta Tactical Rifle Supply about having a custom system made up. In the end you'll be happy. I wouldn't talk to Richard Near again if you paid me. You only get one chance to make a first impression and he didn't get cheated on his one chance. Rick at ATRS, on the other hand, has been a personal friend for 15 years and he is the best kind.

I'm a huge fan of Near mounts. I had an Alpha mount on a mk v in 338 lapua and it was rock solid and looked ###y. I wouldn't hesitate to use Near products on anything.

Doug,

that was the recommendation from Leupold when we mounted the 378 and 30-378 and we never heard nothing wrong after we used those ones ...
