I am playing with the idea of mounting a conventional modern scope on my 1885BPCR.

What are my options? I know the barrel and action have drilled and tapped holes, but I am assuming they are for a "period" scope setup.

If I could procure a scope base set up without drilling and tapping the rifle, using the exsisting tapped holes that would be prefferred.

I would mount a 6.5-20 vxIII leupold target scope. My plan is to just shoot the rifle out to 500yards and closer.

I am not presently near the rifle, so I cannot share measurements of the exsistng holes installed by the factory.

I'm about to mount a x18 Unertl on my 45-70 High Wall, since I have one spare, as well as a couple of sets of mounts and bases - one POSA-style and one standard. The 'period' base distance is usually around 7 - 8 inches in order to make necessary adjustments on an externally-adjusted scope like the Winchester A5, Unertl, Lyman or Fecker/Litschert style scopes of yore.
